alan krueger and tim kaine. i'm curious to know how much attention you pay, nonseasonally adjusted nonfarm payrolls. you see a negative number because these are nonseasonally adjusted numbers. july is typically a month where the plans are idle events and other things -- for maintenance and other things. it is just over one million. shockingly, this is the best july 1 since 1999. >> yesterday i went through not only july, but also august. last year on the show august was an incredibly disappointing number. we had been trending over 200,000 jobs for two months prior and then all of a sudden you had 142,000 jobs in august. 13 of the last 15 august reports have been revised higher. what happened is a real sees double -- real seasonal adjustment. you tend to get people nervous about this slowdown. august has been amazing about how consistent and has shown disappointing numbers. you have to follow the seasonals and see what is happening. the trend, in terms of where you look and where we are moving is good. matt: four

also with us is alan posener who is a regular contributor to "die welt." turkey has every right to pursue kurdish terrorists he says and turkey has been left in the lurch. i'm delighted to welcome deger akal who has worked for several years and and kara -- ankara. deger believes that the turkish people are more progressive than their politicians. what we are seeing his massive destabilization and the region and my sense is that you blame erdogan for the escalation. why? ms. pohl: he lost his majority in june and i think this is why he is increasing his attacks on the pkk and i said this is a cynical game of fire. we do not know where this will lead to or when and how this can be ended. what we do know is that we need the kurdish fighters to fight i.s. this is where erdogan really plays and we should be aware that he is unpredictable he might increase the violence against pkk. peter: alan, i get the impression you feel sorry for the turkish leader. mr. posener: i'm not sorry for mr. erdogan. i'm sorry for the situation in turkey. turkey has on its board, mr

legal and poliitical background are suzanna sherry, professor of law at vanderbilt university, and alan gomez, who covers immigration for "usa today." professor sherry, i want to ask you this and alan as well, is this a constitutional argument or a political one? i think it's a constitutional argument because the 14th amendment guarantees birthright citizenship and, so, it has to be amended if anybody wants to change that. >> ifill: alan gomez, a political argument? >> of course, there is part of that as well. there are some in congress who feel they don't need an entire new amendment to repeal this, they just need to rework the law, interpret it a little bit differently, but, obviously, as we're seeing on the campaign trail, there is a heavy political component to this. >> ifill: professor sherry, give us a history lesson, the genesis of this debate. >> the 14th amendment was passed in 1868, and the primary purpose of the sentence was to reverse the 1857 case of dred scott which held blacks could not be citizens. so this made everybody who was born here, black or white, a citizen of th

alan, welcome to the show. good to see you. >> good to see you. >> let's talk about the poster you won with. how did you design that and was it sort of a launching point for you? >> kind of. i was in seventh grade and i was attending sequoia middle school. my teacher asked me to enter this growing up asian in america contest, so i did. it was an illustration with pencil and watercolor. i won first place. it was an exciting time. >> giving you courage and confidence. >> definitely. all of the encouragement, mr. boyd, gave me and teachings were why i pursued a career in art. way thankful for that and the program itself. >> what were you headed toward, seemed like video games and things were on the horizon. was that something you could say that was a goal of minor you were developing talent and an industry appeared in front of you. >> i went to college at academy of art, studied traditional illustration under chuck pile. at that time i didn't know what i wanted to do. i studied painting, drawing, stuff like that.

. >> the company is negotiating with the city to reopen the alan company site soon. that is where the story takes another turn. it appears the site, and nearly all the others in l.a. have not been subjected to an environmental impact report in nearly 30 years. >> the city of los angeles has never done any environmental review. even less than a full environmental impact report. for any project at any site in the stiff of los angeles that i have been able to find. michael is a history professor and a local resident. he spent hundreds of hours looking into how the city is regulating oil fields. >> the failure to do environmental reviews is part of a larger pattern of the city as a hole. the planning department. other agencies, the council, the mayor, and the city administrative officer, being asleep at the switch. >> "america tonight" also combed through files and databases, and we made a trip to city hall to look for answers, nobody could tell us how many active drill sites there are, where they are, or if the city had done an environmental impact report on them. what

alan colmbs is the host of the alan colmbs show. >> secretary of state john kerry on tuesday is going to testify in front of the senate foreign relations committee and on wednesday hearing on the -- for the senate banking committee looking at the implications of the sanctions being lifted on iran. your thoughts? >> these are very important meetings. kerry to date has gotten battered around pretty effectively by most of the republicans but i think the issues that are raised here it's becoming more and more clear is the money and what they do with the money. everybody's talked about the nuclear weapon. khamenei has a new book called "palestine." the nuclear weapon is to keep israel from doing anything back to them. they're going to take israel out by the war of attrition, they'll take them out by hezbollah, hamas, what have you. that's pretty accurate. we put sanctions on them when they kidnapped and took over our embassy in 1978. i don't care where our friends go. america has to take a stand here and it's very very important that we basically kill this deal. >> you said $150 billion in
