dr. carson same question to you. if hillary clinton is the nominee and she comes at you with that kind of line of attack how will you take her on? >> if hillary is the candidate, which i doubt, that would be a dream come true. but you know the fact of the matter is she is the epitome of the progressive, the secular progressive movement. and she counts on the fact that people are uninformed. the model taking advantage of useful idiots. i just happen to believe that people are not stupid. and the way i will come at i is to educate people. help people to actually understand that is the progressive movement causing the problems. you look at the national debt and how it is being driven up. if i was trying to destroy this country, what i would do is find a way to drive wedges between the people. drive to debt on an unsustainable level and then step off the stage as a world leader and let our enemies increase while we decreased our capacity as a military person. that's what she is doing. >> gentlemen, we'll turn now to the

carson's rise and he did well among the republican base in that first debate, i think dr. carson exemplifies the deep dissatisfaction with politics as it is today, with the present people in politics, and that people want a big change. think his great knowledge and quiet demeanor has impressed people. he is someone who has done substantive things in his life -- not just made beaches speeches. one of the things that came out of the first debate though the whole focus was on donald trump is that the republican bench, so to speak, is very deep and very strong. you had a lot of impressive people up there. you will get even more an impression on the september 16 debate. that is why the situation in the republican party in particular is so fluid. you have a lot of people who are very plausible. that is why carly fiorina is going up and dr. carson is going up and governor kasich has had a rise. host: let's take some calls. steve forbes is our guest. matt is calling in from new york on our republican line. caller: good morning. good morning, mr. forbes. guest: good morning, matt.
