when erick erickson announced trump's invitation had been revoked, there was a mix of applause and boos. what did you hear from attendees after the gathering? >> a lot of attendees at red state feel that trump struck a chord with the frustrations mounding for years in the republican base. they'd like to see him run a more disciplined campaign and really live up to that expectation that he talks about when he says he's going to have a serious bid. so i think in a wait and see moment, they're not so sure trump's going to fall in the polls but they're not so sure he's going to be the nominee either. >> stay there. i want to bring in the panel. kate lynn huey burns is a political reporter with real clear politics. david avella is the chairman of go pack. msnbc political analyst joan walsh is also editor at large of salon. katelyn, let me start with you. do you think there's a cohesive plan or unified effort within the republican party right now to ice out trump? >> well, they've tried that in the past and it hasn't worked. remember the rnc chairman called trump. you had some of these rivals
