ken? >>> the search is on this morning for a man accused of raping a 7-year-old girl on staten island. the twist here is this. he had been in police custody following the incident but he was released. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live at the precinct to explain how it happened and good morning. >> good morning, ken. police had daniel nieto in custody but not long enough. he was placed under arrest for trespassing. it was after his release that police learned of an alleged rape of a 7-year-old girl. here is a look at daniel nieto. police say he broke in a namely's home through an unlocked backdoor, went to the 7-year-old girl's bedroom where police say he raped her. the family discovered nieto inside their home and called police. by then he ran away. police found him a short time later, close to the family's home. detectives had him in custody for trespass being but it was later on that they learned that the 7-year-old had claimed that nieto raped her. so, we have been showing you

>> reporter: good morning, ken. at this hour, police are looking for the gunman in this mass shooting incident but for answers on what happened here, a shooting incident that left one man dead and four others hurt. the chaos began about 3:00 a.m. this morning, a few hours ago. the gunman walked into the hookah lounge on flatbush and started firing. one man was shot multiple times in the head and torso and later pronounced dead at kings county hospital. three others were hurt and a woman was injured by shattered glass. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. the scene inside the restaurant, more evidence of the chaos, shattered glass, displaced purchase any tur. this is an active scene as they try to piece together what happened and continue to hunt for the gunman. the business opened in late january. it has been open a few months billing itself as brooklyn's newest hot spot. neighbors say it is a popular late night business. the man that said that to us did not want to go on camera but said sadly he wa

>> reporter: good morning, shirleen and ken. within the last hour we have received the report of another shooting happened in the brownsville section of brooklyn. that happens in the 300 block of mother gaston boulevard. that person is in unknown condition. a man was shot. police have someone in custody. meanwhile, in the 800 block of saratoga, it is blocked off. you can see behind me members of the crime scene unit working outside the apartment building where the shooting happened. there are nypd cram as on this block. police hope the cameras were functioning last night which will help them identify the shooter they are looking for. it happened around 8:30. according to police and eyewitnesses, a man drove up in a black car. that driver jumped out of the black car, approached three men standing in front of the apartment building and just started shooting. a 21-year-old man was shot in the chest and later pronounced dead. a 19-year-old and 22-year-old were shot. they were taken to brookdale hospital where they are listed in stab

ken? >>> happening today a meeting of the minds in an effort to fix the massive problem leading to huge delays for commuters who rely on the rail tunnel under the hudson river. dray clark is live in newark with what is ahead, dray? >> reporter: good morning, ken. later on today, anthony johnson fox will meet with governor christie along with smear menendez and booker and the topic of discussion will be the gateway project. it is that multibillion dollar plan that calls for building a new hudson river tunnel, a project that many believe is desperately needed now. there was a plan in the works but in 2010 governor christie pulled state funding because of possible cost overruns. there are two rail tunnels and they are more than a century old and in dire need of repair. a new jersey transit train with 200 passengers got stuck inside the tunnel causing significant delays for morning commuters then last month a series of electrical problems inside the tunnel caused days of delays and diversions.

>> reporter: good morning, ken. during the summer months the coney island boardwalk is a popular destination. for one man it's a target for a robbery spree, one that specifically is targeting elderly residents. take a look at these pictures. this is the man police are looking for. they say he is responsible for six robberies dating back to july 23rd. he rides up on a bike and snatches jewelry from unsuspecting residents, gold chains and bracelets and seems to be targeting older residents. the victims in these cases range from 63 up to 81. the most recent incident took place a few days ago on august 13th when the suspect snatched a gold chain from a 63-year-old victim. most of these incidents that happen in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon mainly in the west 30s. anyone with information, of course, is asked to call crimestoppers, 1-800-577-tips. the calls are confidential. if you recognize the man in the pictures we showed you, please give authorities a call. rob nelson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> tha

i'm ken rosato. breaking news on staten island. a fire was shot after responding to a house fire. police barricaded the home with the alleged shooter inside. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live with the latest details. what do we know, dray. >> good morning, ken you can see a large nypd and fdny presence behind me. everyone is focused on the home where the firefighter was shot early this morning. around 6:00 a.m. a member of the u.s. marshal service went to a home 15 destiny court to apprehend suspect. while approaching the home, the marshal noticed smoke coming from the basement of the building. they called in the fire department. as firefighters approached the home, the suspect opened fire. the firefighters were -- one of the firefighters were struck. the firefighter was rushed to richmond university medical center. his condition is unknown. for some time the suspect continued firing at police officers who came rushing to the home. we haven't heard word of gun frier from the home since abou

ken over to you. >>> 5:32. we have breaking news in new jersey, two children and an adult are in critical condition after they were pulled from a burning building. you can see behind me here flames spreading to several homes in newark early this morning. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson live at the scene. >> you can see here behind me still a very active scene this morning. this fire broke out shortly about 4 a.m. this morning. three people apparently critically injured in all of this. the fire began at 581 bergen street in newark. plenty of firefighters still on the scene. the good news is the fire does appear to be out and well under control. you can see the damage on the third floor here of the house, you're probably looking at video from earlier now where you see those flames tearing through this one home. we understand the fire spread quickly going from this house at 581 and spreading to two other homes. middle of the night folks were asleep but neighbors went around banging on doors to get people out.

of control. >> reporter: yes, ken and keba. you can get a sense of what's happening all day long. that fire in the distance, the jerusalem fire has been gaining ground throughout the day with the thick black smoke going up. that is thick brush, chaparral burning and lots of oil, and you can see the flames shooting over the ridge line. this fire started around 3:30 on sunday afternoon. it has been thus far officially 5,000 acres, but that was early this morning when the number came in and has likely grown. 50 homes are threatened by this fire in the immediate area of the fire. hidden valley has another 1200 homes and 5000 residents that have been told they need to be ready to go if anything in the fire situation changes. but certainly, an active fire happening right now. a lot of the firefighters fighting the rocky fire just wrapping up there as that fire was nearing containment when this fire started. both a good and a bad thing. the firefighters have been exhausted working on the rocky fire for the last couple weeks. but the g
