news 4 new york. >> all right, thank you. also in new jersey, we're learning new details about a livery cab driver who was shot and killed while trying to earn his living. the victim, a 57-year-old man and a father of ten. the shooter, still on the run at this hour. news 4's michael george has been working up details. what can you tell us? >> reporter: the cab driver was called here to this neighborhood late last night to make a pickup and co-workers tell me someone was waiting for him. the cab driver was shot in the head in his own cab. right now the killer is still on the loose. for the cab driver, was supposed to be a routine pickup. >> i just seen him friday -- i saturday. everything was fine. we cracked jokes, smoke a cigarette here and there. the guy was an amazing guy. >> reporter: emad had come to this quiet neighborhood around 11:00 p.m. tuesday night. prosecutors say someone shot him in the head and emad's cab kept moving, hitting two parked cars and injuring two people inside. emad's co-workers at station cab were

4 new york. >> thank you. >>> we do have a horrific story to tell you about, because police need your help. they want to find the man they say broke into a staten island home, snuck into a 7-year-old girl's room and raped her. this happened in port richmond. lori bordonaro picks up the story from there. >> reporter: on the lookout, residents of this port richmond neighborhood searching for any sign of daniel nieto. the 32-year-old accused of raping a 7-year-old girl inside her bedroom. >> i don't know who he is. and it's terrible that something could happen to a little girl. >> reporter: police say nieto snuck in through an unlocked back door august 6th, raped her and took off. >> i have daughters, i have grandkids. and that's horrible. >> reporter: the girl told her family about the man who they found in an abandoned building next door. she didn't mention the rape allegations until the next day. by then, nieto had been released from custody, charged with criminal trespassing. he's 5'2", 125 poun

4 new york. >> thank you for the update. >>> a fast moving fire through a home cluttered with piles of debris caused the death of the two people living inside. this was ida siegal on the saechb scene after the fire broke out. >> reporter: the house that was on fire is empty tonight across the street behind me here. a pile of debris sitting outside, and that debris is part of the reason firefighters say they had a hard time getting inside this home when it was in flames. officials call it a hording condition. fire started at about 1:00 in the afternoon, intense flames shot out of the windows, as you can see in the krmp cell phone video there. as they fought through the clutter, they found two victims dead in the kitchen. firefighters were not the only ones trying to save lives earlier in the afternoon. we spoke to the next door neighbor, alex franklin, captured on surveillance video from his own camera trying to kick the front door down, but he could not get in either. take a listen. >> i knocked

it was a violent weekend in new york. grainy surveillance video captured a shooting scene at a house party in east new york. nine people were shot. in red hook, five were shot on monday night in a drive-by. one of the victims, a 19-year-old pregnant woman. she survived. her unborn baby didn't. >> it was senseless. she -- this is an unborn child. this child was innocent. >> reporter: the police commissioner and mayor de blasio tried to send a message. despite the violence we've seen lately, the city is safer. >> look at the facts and stop the hysteria. >> reporter: the nypa says overall crime is down 6% but murder is up 9%. the commissioner believes it's events like these that are crucial to improving reducing crime. also. we cannot do it without you. >> reporter: parents told us they were grateful to police for providing a safe, fun night out for them and their kids. >> it's great and wonderful what they did. >> reporter: if this were a normal night, no police around, would you take your kids out? >> yeah, but not here. >
