she's live in south philadelphia. walk us through what happened. >> reporter: well, tracy, a lot happened this morning in a short amount of time. fortunately, philadelphia police officers saw most of it and they tell us they know who they're looking for. the man believed to be behind this whole ordeal who was driving this black mustang, they say is a former prison inmate. they know this because they found what's believed to be his prison i.d. at one of the scenes. initially police pulledç over e man for driving erratically in south philadelphia. when officers walked up to the car, he took off. police followed in their cruiser only to see him crash the black mustang several blocks a wa. officers say their suspect carjacked another vehicle which was nearby and had people in it. he forced the driver and the passenger out and he drove off. police say two women were still sitting in the back seat. eventually the suspect pulled the car over, jumped out and ran. the two women did get control of of the car and were able to

now, that man is accused of hitting philadelphia police car -- rather philadelphia police officer lamar poole who was off duty yesterday afternoon when he was riding his motorcycle. the crash happened at devereaux street and roosevelt boulevard. investigators say the suspect's silver toyota turned in front of officer poole's motorcycle. the 19-year police veteran was thrown from the vehicle and died from head injuries a short time later. now, according to witnesses, the driver got out of the car for a minute right after the crash, looked at what happened and then drove away. >> we had a couple witnesses, one being a tow truck driver who followed the vehicle helped out big time and followed the car, turned the car in, called the police. >> reporter: an update from accident investigators this morning is the suspect has not been charged yet but if he is charged, he's likely facing dui charges as well as leaving the scene of an accident among other charges. coming up at 5:00, i'll tell you why the community here in southwest philadelphia is taking this loss so personally. reporting live in

the british army had taken the rebel capital of philadelphia and was hoping to split off philadelphia and the northern colonies from the southern colonies and end the rebellion. washington's army marches into valley forge about 20 miles west and this is actually a painting. it will be very recognizable to people. it's probably one of the most iconic images of the american revolution. it was painted after the civil war, so it's about a century later as a commemorative work but very evocative of the date, december 19, 1777, as washington's army marches along the gulf road into its winter quarters at valley forge. and a couple of the objects i have here would have been witnesses to that winter encampment. the first is a pair of silver camp cups here. if you can see them. and these pass down through the washington -- through relatives of general washington who had this "w" engreyed on them later and the camp cup owned and used by general washington during the war. these two are part of a set 1206 camp cups. what's remarkable is the original receipt has survived. so we know these were made

the single largest in philadelphia history. it means people who were in jail on serious drug charges, they were convicted, they are now going to be able to go free. others who were on probation will no longer be on probation. you may remember this case. there were six narcotics police officers who went to trial on corruption charges and they were acquitted of all of those charges earlier this year. still, the evidence uncovered in that investigation is still admissible evidence in other cases. i just spoke with a public defender who had filed 1400 petitions last year asking for new trials in those cases involving the police officers who were largeter charged, then found not guilty. today, it was agreed 158 of those convictions should be tossed. >> prosecutor's office to their credit has stood by what they said before which is there was sufficient doubts involving these officers that render questions about the fairness of their convictions and the right thing to do in the interest of justice is to reopen the cases and they did.
