. >> meteorologist rob mayeda is there trying to find homes for thousands of dogs, cats and pets. he's at the humane society in pleasanton, the valley humane society. we've seen puppies, kittens and now we're looking for a cat on a leash? >> cat on a leash, we've got that too. the puppies and kittens very easily adoptable, but one of the populations often overlooked at many shelters around the bay area are the mature cat population. one of them, neptune here, does do well on a leash, kid of acting a bit like a dog. we've got the executive director with us. melanie, a special program you have to match people with these older cats. >> we do. it's called meet your match. adopters can come in and take a survey and it will tell them what kind of cat might be their kind of cat. cats are classified by color and then attitude. so neptune here is 5 years old and he is considered an executive. so he is the type of cat that will go into your house. he's going to look around the entire house, check out the closets, come and say hi to you, but he's not necessarily the cat that's going to jump

rob mayeda is looking at the forecast. how are we doing? >> at least around the bay area temperatures are comfortable right now. but we're seeing a few spots out around the east bay, still near 90 degrees this afternoon. you see some cooler temperatures toward alameda. and right now in dublin, 75 degrees as you see right there. we have clear skies, high clouds going by. and a little closer to the bay, a little breezy. and a few high clouds around the golden gate bridge right now. high clouds on approach later. still 70 in san francisco. so we saw the pattern this morning from mt. r mount hamilton, all to have low clouds in the santa clara valley. by mid morning clearing out to sunshine. upper 70s and low 80s around san jose. we're going to repeat this into monday morning. you see the drizzle and low clouds out there for the early part of the day. a few high clouds passing by. and the temperatures tomorrow very similar to the pattern we saw today with upper 50s and 60s in the forecast. lurch time you'll see the numbers in the low 70s and hig

meteorologist rob mayeda is here. >> san jose, 97 degrees. livermore, 104 degrees, not quite record-breaking but plenty hot. that would be a record. 105 for livermore. 100 degrees temperatures around napa. so we have a heat advisory all the way through 9:00 tonight including san francisco. that doesn't happen too often, but, yes, you had those mid-90s in a few spots south of downtown today. slow cooling after sundown tonight. the other component is the poor air quality for the north bay, east bey, and south bay tomorrow. spare the air damond for ground level ozone and a little smoke pollution which continues to drop down out of the north as we look at the wind speeds. a little lower in elevation. you can see how the northerly winds are bringing in the smoke right across the bay area. still 82 degrees in san francisco right now but you have a tough time looking across the bay and that's the view right now in tiburon. our temperatures slowly cooling. mid-60s to start tomorrow as a few more spots could run towards the 100 degree mark again tomor

meteorologist rob mayeda is here with the forecast. nice weather in the south bay. >> nice weather in the south bay, san francisco a little breedsy at 72 degrees. and speaking of the santa clara valley looking down from mt. hamilton we're at about 77 degrees right now in san jose. hazy skies around san jose. and over toward dublin some of the warmest temperatures around the bay area today, out toward the tri-valley. 83 degrees. and into oakland there you go. 77 right now. of course we've got the raiders game coming up here just minutes away. should see kickoff temperatures in the 70s and cooling into the 60s as the game goes on. a little breezy out there out at the coliseum tonight. you can see those winds, 15 to 20-mile-per-hour gusts at times. this is one part of the weather story. we're going to see those winds keeping our temperatures down as you you see in the extended seven-day forecast. we're also track three major hurricanes out near hawaii. a little bit of good news when it comes to the forecast. almost unprecedented late yest

we did want it check in with rob mayeda. new work week around the corner. how is it looking? >> more or less the same we saw this weekend. you can see there, occasional high clouds passing by and gorgeous sunset there, looking off to the west. we will see low clouds sweeping in. temperatures in low 60s by tomorrow morning. temperatures in upper 50s and low 60s. by monday afternoon into tuesday, we expect blustery conditions. wind off the ocean. coolest likely through tuesday then a warm-up approaching the middle part of the week. don't be surprised to run into a little bit of drizzle and mist for the morning p. by lunch time still running fairly cool. temperatures inland in low to id 70s. monday and tuesday, we saw highs towards 100 degrees. temperatures will be slightly below average. highs near 80 degrees. notice redwood city, palo alto in the 70s. north bay temperatures with the breeze out of the south should keep numbers into mid to upper 70s. so the next 24 hours, as you can see there, gets drizzle and mist at times. areas of low clouds that we clear out to sunshine for

meteorologist rob mayeda has more. >> this was part of the forecast that expired at 9:00 p.m. the wave heights coming down five feet offshore. but the wind speeds are fairly gusty. 25 to 30 miles an hour. over land we have been seeing the wind gusts at sfo. wind speeds starting to come down but it's that wind direction that is doing some interesting things to our temperatures right now. 55 degrees in san francisco. san jose, 69 as we show you dublin right now. 70 degrees and over towards oakland, we're at 68, but parts of the north bay and low-to-mid 70s as the air is forced downward. we saw it around sonoma, high close to 90 degrees. three hurricanes near hawaii. the good news we have to report, they're decreasing in strength. all signs they will largely avoid hawaii. kilo west of hawaii, ignacio, moving just to the north of the hawaiian islands. here is the path of immigragnac moving farther to the north. as the storms curve to the north and get caught in the westerly jet stream, moving along into the pacific, we could see the patterns move as the energy gets absorbed into t

. >>> checking in with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> you don't typically expect to find rain drops in late august. about .800 of an inch of rain. you can see .06 of an inch of rain. enough to wet the pavement in many spots. the system that went through, a quick mover. we're beginning to see if the winds are picking up the sea breeze. our temperatures running a lot cooler today than yesterday. we had near 100 degrees. look at the 24-hour temperature degree changes. 15 degrees cooler and this is the trend that would continue as we wrap up the weekend. 80 degrees. the winds moving faster. you can see san jose, mainly clear skies. the number in the mid 70s. oakland about, 74 degrees. notice the skies more clear outside right now as the winds have picked up. and the drizzle has rinsed the dust out of the skies. 72 degrees in san francisco. so the weekend, starting off very interesting. a very strong trough. bringing a lot of wind and rain to the north. the pattern will continue off and on as we go through the week. it looks like rain. it will stay too far to the north. as the winds stay on

. >> meteorologist rob mayeda is here with the micro climate forecast and some rain to talk about. >> we had a little rain across the bay area. >> enough to measure in some areas. we almost got close to a tenth of an inch of rain. you can see, .05 of an inch of rain. a little earlier. take a little time for the east bay and the south bay to break out the sunshine as the winds have stayed on shore. you can see a few of the light rain showers passing by. now moinls skies. some paxes near the coast. the winds continue to move onshore. that is sea breeze which we're accustomed to seeing when we have a hot afternoon. the ocean air kicks in. notice the humidity numbers. 74%. about 64% in oakland. it is a little on the high side. notice the sea breeze. on the scale of 10 to 15 degrees of cooling today but a little of mid afternoon sunshine, allowing santa cruz to turn a little warmer. ocean temperatures, three to six degrees above average. it is lacking the cooler punch that we normally get. 79 in dublin. you can see san jose. a few areas of high clouds moving over the santa cruz mountains.

right now let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda with a lack at how the weather is going to affect the wildfires. >> right now short term not so much around the rocky fire. hot and dry conditions up there. the satellite view interesting. you've got the fog on the coast and the smoke flums from the rocky mountain fire is taking up this part. you can see here on the satellite, the upper level system pulling in more tropical moisture out of the desert southwest. northern california north of redding we have a chance of more lightning sparked fires from some of those storms not throwing down enough rain with all of the lightning that we're seeing across the high country of california. the fire exploding overnight. 47,000 acres. the footprint almost the size of clear lake. a much different story in the bay area. the temperatures right now are running a little cooler than yesterday as the sea breeze is turning stronger. once again tonight we'll see the low clouds coming back inland but probably just for elevations below 2500 feet which may not push the cooler marine air up towards lake co

. >> i know a guy who is a meteorologist, rob mayeda, if you were a wagering man, which way do you say it would go? if el nino stays in a strong phase, thingerize looking perhaps a little better for an average or above average rainfall. saudi arabi certainly for southern california. signs are pointing to a stronger el nino that will get stronger in late fall. notice the bull's eye for the heavier rain, that is central and southern california. dry in the pacific northwest. now, it does look like this el nino will impact us most strongly in terms of rainfall early winter. right now, we're seeing strong storms in the pacifica. higher numbers of pacific hurricanes and more wind shear across the tropical atlantic. we have seen a quiet tropical atlantic. right now, the latest projection, late fall into early winter, el nino will peak and strong classic el nino seasons in the past, january and february tend to be the big months for rainfall. fingers crossed. we'll hope el nino stays in a strong phase throughout the winter. where right now, typical sea breeze into dublin. 75 in san jose, tibur

meteorologist rob mayeda explaining why we're experiencing the heat wave. >> our temperatures reflecting the fact the sea breeze stopped. we had wind that is making the air come down from those areas that are up across the north coast pushing the smoke into the area. 90 degrees in san francisco breaks the record of 84 degrees was the former record high today. san jose, 97. concord and livermore above 100 degrees today and a few other locations from the north bay and out towards napa. you see the numbers above 100 degrees towards santa rosa and 90s around hayward. through 9:00 tonight we still have the heat advisory up pretty much no matter where you go except the coastal areas, marin county. we have another spare the air day coming up tomorrow. the upper air wind pattern is lacking the sea breeze and it's the smoke particle pollution as we drop down this elevation to 5,000 feet. you see how the upper level winds here are pushing the smack back down towards the bay area. instead of a strong sea breeze which would send it out towards oregon. that is the view right now in tibur tiburon. san
