nbc 10's katy zachry is live in allentown to explain. katy, i know we got that new information just within the past half hour. fill us in. >> reporter: we are getting new information by the hour on this case. you mentioned that stanoff. during the standoff, many people in this apartment complex you're about to see were evacuated. we're told they are now back in their apartment homes. we have a live picture from the scene, just across town from where i am. i'm at the hospital. around 10:00 last night, an allentown police officer with the criminal investigations division was following leads from a weekend homicide. the officer was serving a search warrant onç a property on nort godfrey street when we're told gunfire erupted from inside one of the apartments, shots fired at police and this officer was hit in the arm. a suspect, the shooter was also hit, too, by return gunfire from police. both men are expected to recover. this is all connected, we've learn, to a weekend murder that occurred in allentown of a woman whose body was found stu

nbc 10's katy zachry is live in allentown. what are you learning about the officer and the suspect and that connection? >> well, tracy, at this time, the officer's name has not been released yet. neither has the suspect's name. both men are being treated here at lehigh valley hospital for gunshot wounds. allentown police were serving a search warrant at this apartment complex around 10:00 last night. they had zeroed in on a specific unit when we're told someone inside that unit started firing at them. one of the officers who was serving the search warrant was hit in the arm. now the shooter who was shooting from inside was also hit by return fire. what followed was a tense standoff between police and the suspect. here's the allentown police chief on the subject. >> at the time of the incident there was an exchange of gunfire, the individual inside did receive wounds from the exchange of gunfire. and after a brief standoff, we were able to secure him inside the apartment and transport him for treatment as well. >> reporter: now
