claire: this is the subdivision in new smyrna beach. you can see from the ground, the smoke and flames within that area that was a 100 plus acre controlled burn that jumped the fire line and became uncontrolled earlier today. chopper 2 was over this scene as well. this is a rural community. frequently, forced it will come back and do controlled burns as the brush grows, just to ensure that something like a brush fire does not you brought. for whatever reason, the control burned jump the line. there was some concern about several homes in the area, and so they did fire protection there, but it did not get closer then several hundred yards from those homes, so good news. a lot of folks here concerned, although we have rain coming. they were worried this thing could really blow up, because we have some wind and that is what likely sent this controlled burn out of control. they have contained it as of right now, although they are checking on that and they will get back to us in a few minutes. this is off for 15, south and west of new smyrna

look at new smyrna beach. 31-mile-an-hour wind. it's just crazy. crazy windy out there. i can't think of anything from kite flying to whatever you want to do in the wind, you really can't enjoy it. it's too windy, too windy for even the fun stuff. the satellite and radar together are not showing any appreciable precipitation coming in. you can see the cloud cover from orlando to kills me to melbourne, those will -- from kissimmee to melbourne, those will peel away. it's going to be time before we can turn it around. overnight lows tonight are down to at least 33 in ocala. some of the outlying areas in marion county will go below that. temperatures of 31, maybe 32. for that reason, a freeze warning in marion county and ocala. the winds tonight keep right on pushing from the west, gusting up to 20. the overnight low in orlando can get as low as 39. here's tomorrow. by noontime tomorrow, we're back to 52. only an 11 degree jump and up to 57 for the daytime high. keep in mind. a normal daytime high should be 72 degrees. we're not making that anytime soon. overnight low tomor

after a truck slams into a home in new smyrna beach. the accident happened at a home at the intersection of cooper street and oakwood avenue yesterday. neighbors tell us a truck was speeding down oakwood ... when it blew through a stop sign. they say it clipped a tree before plowing into the bedroom of a home. a woman was in the home at the time of the crash... but was not hurt. neighbors say this isn't the first time they've seen this kind of crash in the several neighbors say they are trying to get a 4-way stop at the intersection... and warning signs on the actual pavement. a five-year-old boy in polk county has died after he was hit by a car driven by a man who was trying to get away from police. the sun sentinel reports jayden readon was on a sidewalk near his home in boynton beach on saturday when he was hit. the driver, lex eugene, was running from police after they tried to stop him for reckless driving. eugene was caught, several crimes including vehicular manslaughter and murder. happening now... the number of hit- and-run cra
