. >> brian: dani carlson was there as the doctors explained the transplant and joins us live now with the latest. >> reporter: well they explained the procedure and we also got a chance to hear from the patient for the very first time. doctors here at the clinic are describing this transplant as not a life-saving one but hopefully as a life creating one. one 26-year-old woman received the uterus transplant last month. it's the first time in the united states this surgery has the first successful uterus transplant in the world happened in sweden in 2014. the surgery here at the clinic took nine hours and it will be another year before the woman can start to try to get pregnant and, this is planned to be a temporary transplant. right now, the plan is after the patient has one or two babies, the uterus will be removed so she doesn't have to stay on antirejection drugs for life. now, today we did hear briefly from the first patient and she described why she wanted to undergo this procedure. >> i want to be open and honest and to share my story. and i was 16 and was told i would never have
