joe bruno, channel 9 eyewitness news. was found shot to death in a north charlotte park, police have a suspect in custody. >> we're live where the suspect is expected to make his initial appearance today at the courthouse. angela? ? >> reporter:es, that's right. now, darnell brown will be here at the mecklenburg county courthouse to face a judge on the charges. he's been charged with murder and murder of an unborn child. now, police say they believe that brown was the last person to speak with 17-year-old before her death. investigators believe that the two were supposed to meet up on the night of the hurt. brown was already in custody for unrelated charges when police brought him in to be interviewed yesterday and that led to these charges. four years ago, her body was found at elder park in charlotte. she had been shot in the head three times. she was also two months pregnant and warrants showed that at the time, she believed that brown could have been the father. for more information about what exactly led them to make

joe bruno is live outside headquarters. joe, she's the fifth victim in a series of shootings. >> reporter: 24 hours in charlotte have been filled with violence. police are trying to figure out what led to all of the shootings now. >> we made this map to show you where they were. the first shooting injured two people. police found one person shot at a gas station off brookshire boulevard and another victim at his home on mcginn grove drive. bullets were fired in his car, shattering the glass and cutting his body. the second shooting was off the plaza in a shopping center. police say a man and a woman were shot in a car. both victims were taken to the hospital with major injuries. and the third shooting happened around 8:00 off barrington drive in east charlotte. the victim's girlfriend told us her boyfriend was walking back from the store and he was shot in the leg. police say he will be okay. overnight there was a fourth shooting. this one happened near brook tree drive in northwest charlotte. a female victim was shot in th

joe bruno spoke to customers who were surprised about this crime in a quiet area. >> reporter: it wasn't a clean robbery. the manager of this 7/11 told me when the suspects tried to get away they left behind a trail of cigars and police say to their capture. it happened around 4:00 a.m. on the corner of monroe and sharon amity roads. police say two people entered the store and demand cash at gunpoint. and two friends waited in the get away car. the manager tells me two people stole $160 from the register and philly cigars but as they tried to escape, they dropped most of what they took. we spoke with police and spotted them with an envelope full of evidence. police say they didn't make it far. a police dog was able to track the four suspects less than a half mile away on mandarin boulevard. our cameras were rolling as police took the suspects into custody. their identities haven't been released yet. but we're blurring their faces. we're told one of them is only 15 years old. people we spoke with are shocked to hear someone so young would be involved in this. they don't have no guidance n

eyewitness news reporter joe bruno is live with more. joe? >> reporter: the group widen i- 77 has been fighting this toll lane project for years. tonight, members will go over why they think the project will fail. the decision to put toll lanes on i-77 has been highly con verbal. once -- controversial. once complete the lanes will stretch for 26-miles from uptown charlotte to mooresville. but crediting says the project is bad for the local economy and doesn't solve the congestion problem and make it harder for the state to add more lanes in the future. according to a recent public policy poll, more than 80% of lake norman residents are against the project. but even if they don't use the lanes the project still may cost taxpayers money. last week i uncovered the state struck a deal with the i-77 mobility partners to pay up to $12 million per year. enough money. i also obtained a report that shows the developer's expecting to make $5.1 million in 2018 when the project opens. in 2019 that number jumps to $24.6 million. and in 2020 it goes even h
