. >> nbc 10's katy zachry is live along route 55 in vineland. katy? >> so we don't know yet if this crash is weather related. i can tell you when it happened around 2 o 30 with morning, we were headed to the scene on route 55 southbound. it was snowing, light to moderate snow, as you can tell me from my surroundings. that has since stopped. let's take a look at route 55, which is behind me in the distance as we spoke kus in on this one vehicle, a salt truck stopped on the side of the road. that appears to be one of the two vehicles involved in this deadly crash that happened in the overnight hours. here's video of the scene. state police say a sedan crashed with the salt truck near the exit for route 56, landis road, route after of route 55 southbound. the driver of the sedan was killed. the salt truck driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. there was up to a mile of stopped traffic on route 55 as you approached this scene. within the last hour, crews have finished up their work, taking pictures of the vehicles involved. they opened up th

. >>> nbc 10's katy zachry is live for us in colwyn. there were a number of issues that came up for those firefighters and people living nearby. tell us what those issues were. >> there were a bunch of things, first, firefighters had a water supply issue and then there were hazmat concerns from the material inside this warehouse. then on top of those two issues there were several explosions that shook the ground here. what started this large-scale fire in colwyn borough last night is under investigation as we speak. a few fire investigators remain on the scene this morning. the last of the fire trucks left not long ago. we're told this fire started with a car fire that spread to 15 cars in this lot. then the nearby warehouse caught on fire. this property is an auto body facility on ellis street. amazingly when you look at this video, no one got hurt, not the firefighters involved, nearly 150 of them i should tell you, and not the people nearby. >> we had a water supply issue. this is the south end of colwyn, meaning we only have a coupl

. >> katy zachry is live in the digital operations center. katy, what's the latest? >> i just checked in and nbc news is confirming at least 13 people dead in these explosions throughout the city. let's just get right to new video we have for you that we've obtained from outside the airport morning, soon after 8:00 a.m. brussels time. this is the scene outside the airport. the brussels international airport. you can see smoke pouring out of the building and people running in panic. some clutching their luggage. an airport spokesperson says many were instructed to go to the tarmac area where first aid teams met them there and treated them. inside the airport, let's go to these pictures, really shows a gruesome scene. we've blurred out what appears to be several victims lying on the ground there. structures are toppled over, heavy rubble and debris strewn everywhere. we're told this happened in the airport's departure area around 8:00 a.m. brussels time. soon after this happened there was an explosion reported at a brussels train station. we're hearing the city's entir

katy zachry is live on scene. tell us what you know about this crash. >> tracy, it's extremely slow going around the scene. for the last 45 minutes we were caught in the backup as dozens  of other drivers are right now. we have a few still pictures from the scene. before we get to them, behind me, my photographer will zoom in. what we're focusing on right now, this vehicle you see stopped right here with the flashing lights, that is one of the two vehicles involved in this deadly crash. that is a salt truck that pulled over to the side of the road. it's a few hundred yards away from where there's another vehicle, a four-door sedan where we're told the driver of that sedan died in this crash. it happened probably about two hours ago on route 55 south near the exit for route 56. these two vehicles, we're told by state police, are the only vehicles involved in the crash. we do know it is a salt truck, a dump truck type vehicle carrying salt, presumably for the weather that we've been experiencing in the overnight ho

nbc10's katy zachry is live this morning on campus. she's been there since 4:00 a.m. the bookstore doesn't open until 8:00. it's like pulling an all-nighter, remember to? >> reporter: i never pulled an all-nighter, vai, i don't know what you're talking about. but being on campus reminds you of being in college. really, you can sense some of the excitement we're seeing a bunch of students out. some of them are doing early morning runs. they're here at the athletic center behind me. this is the pavilion where the wildcats play their regular games. inside you can see a great mural of their 1985 celebratory ncaa run where they won the entire tournament. now, that is exactly what fans on and off campus are hoping for this year. this is the first day the campus bookstore will sell official villanova final four gear. the first shipment comes in today. the bookstore opens in just about two hours from now. employees tell us they're expecting long lines today of hungry fans who want that official gear. and they're going to be making their way to the campus bookstore pretty soon

we check in with katy zachry. she's been monitoring a serious situation on septa's regional rail lines. >> rosemary, so many people take the paoli/thorndale line. it's one of the more popular lines of septa. unfortunately that service is suspended. it was last night. the problems continue through this morning. they are signal problems. amtrak crews have been working on the problem for hours but unfortunately, the trains remain suspended. riders are being directed to the norristown high speed line as an alternate. many of you may be choosing to drive into or out of center city because the line isn't running. 76 is looking really good. your drive time is 13 minutes as you go between woodhaven and the vine. average speeds in the 60s for 95, for 476. the turnpike is looking good as well. moving into new jersey now, 76 at market street, light traffic there. no issues to report. for our drivers in delaware, if you're driving on 959 around the wilmington area between 295 and 495 that will take you about ten minutes in bo

nbc 10's katy zachry is live for us on the scene. katy, this fire spread to a nearby building, is that right? >> it did, vai. normally we don't talk about how many firefighters it took to put out a fire but in this case it's unique. it's a lot. nearly 100 firefighters from throughout delaware county were called out to this scene you're looking at right now. this is the building that caught on fire after about 15 vehicles initially caught fire. you can see the burn marks on the side of it. here's a look at the fire at the height of it from skyforce 10. our ground crews were not allowed to get close during the height of it for safety reasons. we launched skyforce 10. an auto body facility made up of a warehouse and car lot went up in flames in colwyn borough. people live all around this property and we were worried for their safety because of the overwhelming fumes. turns out, firefighters were worried, too. >> hazmat was called because there was a cloud in the area and if was unknown who was burning in the building. hazmat did declare

katy zachry is live in chester this morning. katy, what do you know? >> reporter: you can see behind me a lot has changed since we saw you all. fire crews have left. the scene has quieted quite a bit in the last 25 minutes or so. investigators did spend a few hours early this morning out here at the scene trying to determine how this damaging fire started. now, this was the scene when crews were in the middle of fighting the fire at the grape leaves deaner on edgemont avenue this morning. the fire broke out were we're told, just before 3:00 a.m. in the dining room area .restaurant was not open at the time. however, the ajase enent day's inn hotel was affected and the guests staying there were affected as well. they tell me they woke up to thick smoke filling their hotel rooms. some say they woke up to the hotel's fire alarm going off. everyone was told to evacuate the bulling. the fire chief says he knows how lucky they are, considering the number of people involved in this. >> the fact there are no injuries. >> we lucked out. somebody had to see it, l

nbc 10's katy zachry just got live on scene. she's getting new information for us. katy, what do you know? >> tracy, we're along edgemont in chester. this is the grape leaf diner, formerly the sunrise diner. it's adjacent to thisç day's i. not long ago, a fire broke out at this diner and the fire and threatening smoke forced the evacuation of the adjacent day's inn. i've been told by the guests staying at the day's inn, they were told to leave their rooms but they can stay in the lobby and overhang here. the firefighters are more in a relaxed mode than they were at the height of the firefighting. they're still attracting hot spots but it is a much better scene than it was earlier when this fire broke out. they do seem to have it under control. i talked with paramedics on scene and there have been no injuries reported. that's the good news, considering all of the people you have as a part of this with the adjacent hotel. we have another crew getting information from the fire chief and people who were forced to evacuate from their hotel rooms. i'll have that coming

katy zachry is on the scene getting new information. morning, katy. >> reporter: good morning, vai. the biggest thing that's happened in the last 25 minutes since i saw you, aíl of the guests who were staying at the day's inn have been let back that their rooms. for the last few hours they had to be evacuated. they were in the lobby area, milling around the property because of smoke throughout the building. i'll get to more on that in just a minute. let's focus in on the diner. investigators have a bunch of lights on grape leaves diner that caught on fire. the investigators have been out here for an hour an a half, looking at the cause. manufacture the fire trucks have left. this was the scene when fire crews were spraying water on the roof of the grape leaves diner. the fire broke out in the dining room. it's important to know the restaurant was closed at the time. this is not a 24-hour diner. but the adjacent day's inn hotel, as i established, was affected. some guests tell us they woke up to thick smoke filling their hotel rooms. other woke up to the fire alarm going off. everyo

reporting live in colwyn borough, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >>> thanks, katy. a father, a friend and a new jersey state trooper. this morning many people across our region are mourning the loss of trooper sean cullen killed in the line of duty. trooper cullen was responding to the scene of an accident on i-295 in west deptford on monday night when he was hit by a passing car. paramedics air lifted cullen to cooper medical center. he died from head injuries. trooper cullen was 31 years old. he was a two-year member of the force. his former comrades said they are shaken by the loss of their friend. >> the biggest thing about him, not only was he outgoing and percentable, he truly worked hard and knew what his goals were. >> it's hard because the guy had a family. >> trooper cullen leaves behind his fiance, a baby boy and another child on the way. the driver who hit cullen stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators and no charges have been filed. >>> many states across the country updated laws over the last few years to protect police and emergency work

nbc 10's katy zachry is live on scene. katy, what do we know right now? >> well, tracy, since we last saw you at 4:30, this is what's changed. take a look at the roof of the grape leaf diner. there are no longer firefighters on the roof having to cut through the damaged area and spray water on hot spots. it looks like they turned over the diner to investigators who got on scene within the last half hour and are currently looking into the cause of this fire. the greape leaves diner was closed at the time the fire broke out. it broke out just before 3:00 a.m. fortunately, the closest fire department is sewnly about a block away. as soon as the call for smoke in this area came in, firefighters nearby looked outside their station, saw smoke and got here as fast as they could. while all this was happening, dozens of people were sleeping inside the adjacent hotel. we have video of the scene outside the day's inn while firefighters were attacking the smoke and flames. we've spoken to some of those guests who were forced from their rooms, forced to go into the lo

nbc 10's katy zachry is live on scene. katy, give us an update. >> reporter: hi, tracy. the good news is, the fire is out. as you can see behind me as we focus in on the roof area, firefighters are digging through some of the damaged spots. they were just pouring water on that area to ensure there are no hot spots and trying to control the hot spots. investigators have gotten on scene since we last saw you at 4:00 a.m. to look into the cause of this fire. here's what happened, according to the chester fire chief who we spoke to about 15ç minutes ago. overnight, this fire broke out from the dining room area of the grape leaf diner on edgemont avenue here in chester. the diner was close at the time. it is not 24 hours. there were no customers inside. fire crews are located just a block from here. that's the closest fire station. when they got the call that there was smoke coming from this area, they looked outside and were able to see the smoke from their fire station headquarters. they got here, called for backup. they were able to put the fire out within less than an h
