but the problem started about two weeks ago, at the west oakland station. cars over there were travelling over a section of track and experiencing some sort of power surge. that power surge was burning out the propulsion systems to specific cars, and just yesterday, about 50 cars were damaged here in north concord. bringing the total number of damaged cars to more than 100 that need to be repaired. fwen, bart has no idea -- again, bart has no idea why this is happening in the first place. they're the flying in engineers and getting help from pg&e engineers to get to the bottom of it. >> we need to get to the bottom of this, we can't allow something like this to continue to impact the car count, however, is going to be something we're dealing with probably for weeks, fewer cars, this isn't something we can turn around quickly and repair everything in a matter of days. it will be felt for sometime unfortunately. >>reporter: and the reason they can't turn around and fix these cars, very fast, is because these are old and the equipment is in short supply. it wi
