the iowa regents say they never heard about an incident involving the university of iowa's interim public safety director and his driving crash. the associated press obtained records showing public safety director david visin refused to pull over for police while driving his stepson, sean crane, in june. officers were looking for crane after his truck hit two cars in a parking lot outside a bar. instead of stopping, records show visin dropped crane off at a gas station and then left before officers arrived. visin says he's diabetic and needed to rush home to control his blood sugar. the regent's subcommittee on campus safety didn't find o o about the incident until the a-p broke the story yesterday. interviews started today for applicants who want to sit on the dubuque county board of supervisors. a total of 25 people are vying for one vacant seat on the board. the seat opened up when supervisor tom hancock died in late january from an apparent heart attack. treasurer, and recorder, is interviewing the 25 candidates before making a decision. that decision could come next week. kcrg t-v ni

the iowa city city council will not give funds to a controversial piece of artwork on the ped mall. the council shot down a plan to to the iowa city downtown district to hire a professional fundraiser for "the lens" project. the plane called for the 30-foot tall sculpture to go up in black hawk mini park, at the north end of the ped mall. last night's city council meeting went passed midnight. they denied the funding in a 5-2 vote. several people spoke in favor of the council awarding the money. nancy bird with the downtown district says this isn't the end for the sculpture. " sot: "i think what happens is that if the fundraising isn't there, the city has to figure out a way to raise money through public private partnership, and we will be there, however i think it's possible and will move forward.. iowa, was in a wheelchair and neck brace in the courtroom. neunaber had to be wheeled into the courtroom, on monday, for his hearing, where he pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and willful injury. back on september 27th, the plymouth county sheriff says neunaber sustained what he calls a "minor injury" during a fall in the jail maximum security area. he was treated by medical staff. five days later, the sheriff says neunaber injured himself, again, when he lost his balance, fell backwards, and hit his head on the edge of the bed in his cell. treated him at the jail, but three days later neunaber had to be taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries from the fall.
