cecily tynan has the forecast. we had stormy weather earlier. >> we are looking better, this is the calm after the storms, double scan live radar shows the severe weather left the region and the storms really hitting central delaware and extreme southern new jersey, this is the rainfall estimates, you can see that parts of cumberland county into cape may county, anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of rain in a short period of time. they intensified as they hit cape may county. we have trees and miles per hour lines down and jackie from wildwood posting this photo from the harbor inn. those deck chairs are down in the pool right now and i think a lot of pools in cape may county are dealing with that right now. this also is a great shot from dotty, this is a shelf cloud the border between the updraft and downdraft and this shows the storm as it approached bethany beach, delaware and that line did intensify as it pushed to the east. areas that got the rain, cool 66 at cape may point. millville 68 but philadelphia at 80 down f

cecily tynan and christie aleto are covering all the angles to this story. lets begin with you cecily. we have tornado warnings and hundreds of lightning strikes kind of a scary afternoon in south jersey. >> but our weather has settled down, the squall line of thunderstorms and damaging winds and the tornado warning has pushed off the coast, there is some isolate the thunderstorm activity cropping up. this is chester county over downingtown crossing 322, one lightning strike this is not severe but has heavy downpours near exton and malvern but double scan live radar showing this is what was happening this afternoon. at 3:40 this is when the national weather service issued the tornado warninging we were indicating a bit of a hook echo and we were picking up the rotating winds higher in the atmosphere when you see those cylinders showing red that is when you have the rotating winds from higher in the atmosphere to the surface that say low level lock and that pushed to the east and we had a lot of wind damage. that was really the main concern with the storms. b

cecily tynan live at the big board. cecily, the jersey shore suffering some tense moments this afternoon. no doubt. >> that's exactly right, jim. i had a lot of family down the shore vacationing sending me pictures of the entire family huddling in their bathtub waiting for the storms to move on because you really had to seek shelter. this is what the radar looked at 2:00 this afternoon. and we had some severe thunderstorms beginning to move out of maryland and they moved quickly east at about 45 miles per hour. so 3:30, you can see beginning to see even some hooking and some being of that echo, that tornado warning went into effect at 3:40. and then the whole line moving off the coast by 5:00 this evening. and we had a lot of energy with these storms. since 2:00, we've reported about 10,000 lightning strikes, a few of them flaring up across near trenton, lakehurst and barnegat. but the bulk of these were across central delaware and extreme southern new jersey with that line of storms and, as it pushed through, the strai

and how bad the storm can get, cecily tynan is live at the big board. >> flooding the main concern with colin. parts of florida and south carolina could get up to eight inches of rain locally. this is infrared satellite and it shows we are actually feeling the effects of colin, but just in the form of some high, thin clouds. really the big concern with colin is the rain. switch this over to radar and show you that colin is really just beginning to make landfall right now. all of this tropical moisture is well in advance of the storm system. and you can see jacksonville heavy rain streaming up into the carolinas. and we are looking at the potential 3-6 inches plus from northern florida through south carolina and georgia. and that will cause localized flooding. the center of the storm again is beginning to pull ashore. maximum sustained wind 50 miles per hour and a pretty weak tropical system moving northeast at 22 miles per hour it will actually take out the forward motion by tomorrow morning around 8:00 near charleston, south carolina. and then racing out to sea. the reason why, there i

meteorologist, cecily tynan, with the exclusive accuweather forecast. >>> meteorologist cecily tynan, is here with the forecast. >> hi monica and rick. we have wet weather on the way. right now most of our region is rain free, we have a few light sprinkles across south jersey and most of it is dying down and one batch heading towards mays landing and another one to sea isle city. and most of the city rain will be falling when most of us are asleep. timing now temperatures are cooling off thanks to the clouds, philadelphia 77 degrees and we hit 80 earlier today. you see the area seeing the most sunshine, allentown 83 and wilmington 73 with clouds, a shower moved through an hour ago and cape may point relatively cool at 69 degrees. satellite 6 along with action radar showing after yesterday's bright blue skies and sunshine the clouds rolled in and this is in advance of a warm front and what will happen is low pressure will develop off the coast of this warm front and that will bring us an easterly flow tomorrow. that keeps us socked in with clouds and helps to bring in showers tonight.

meteorologist melissa magee in for cecily tynan live outside with more. hi, melissa. >> hi, monica. it's delightful at this hour across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. a bit of a breeze kicking in at this hour. check out the high so far across much of the midatlantic region. new york city 76, 84 so far today in philadelphia. 73, though, in richmond, virginia and here's the reason why. it is cooler to our south. as we look at satellite6 along with action radar you can see we had a couple of showers earlier today across south jersey and delaware. now, those are dipping down across areas in the virginias. for our region it's mostly clear, it is quiet and we are drying out. so, if you're out on the town here on this friday, 7:00 p.m. that temperature 80, partly sunny and dry at 8 o'clock, mostly clear at 9 p.m. and a temperature of 71 in the upper 60's on the way at 10:00 and 11 o'clock tonight. we'll talk about what's ahead. we've got a stellar weekend on the way. low humidity as well. and a brief heatup on the way as we get into next week for the official start of summer. we'
