deanna durante, you spoke to the governor. what did he have to say? >> reporter: governor rendell says he was here to support vederman. congressman chaka fattah is not taking the stand in his own defense. none of the defendants are. a big witness, former governor ed rendell to support herbert vederman. >> he didn't think giving him the little bit of money was going to get him an ambassador ship. that's rekick could y that that's ridiculous. >> reporter: he said he reached out to the obama administration and says his appearance to educate jurors about politics. >> we're not all bad. we're not all evil. we're not all seeking to do things for some tuel tearer motive. >> reporter: he says vederman's generosity is not a bribe. >> it had nothing to do with -- i think the allegations against the congressman are approach, he should go to jail. that's a serious offense. >> reporter: prosecutors again pointed tofattah's mean problems. >> he said he's in some trouble, he owns a piece of trouble. would you buy the property. either he would pay you rent or you cou

deanna durante is joining us with more. how did fattah's lawyers respond? >> reporter: fattah spent most of the day looking around the courtroom, many times smiling. federal prosecutor jonathan kravitz said congressman fattah took bribes and stole money and he didn't do it alone. so far the jury has heard from the government. the fattah defense team and the lawyer for herbert biederman. closing arguments will be presented for fattah tomorrow. they spent close to three hours connecting the dots in the case that took more than three weeks to present to the jury. kravitz told the jury, quote, when fattah calls your number, you step up and run the play. he said fattah couldn't accomplish anything without those who worked under him. he told the story about the illegal million dollar campaign loan. when he needed money to bail out his son's college debts, he stole it from campaign accounts and leaned on a wealthy friend to give him bribes. the government lawyers are said to have destroyed fattah's career. there's not an e-mail or letter to link fattah to the alle

deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >>> a grand jury voted not to indict two violent police officers. after a man died in their custody. phillip white died in their custody last year. the incident was caught on tape. the names of the officers involved have not been released. >>> new at 6:00, downtown allentown set to get a bit more green. it's called centre green park and it's being built on the five city center urban innovation concept. the park is being designed by land collective of philadelphia. the first project is scheduled for later this summer. >>> now to the summer's democratic national convention. today local advocates announced 100 local kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities will volunteer at the dnc. it's part of a youth leadership initiative aimed at highlighting the disabled community. here's a look at where all the action will be. the wells fargo central in south philadelphia. the volunteers will work as hotel and hospitality greeters. they'll also provide event support and transportation. >>> well, today was a nice day. tomorrow's something e

nbc 10's deanna durante was in the courtroom all day and has more of that audio obtained by nbc 10. >> the question is are we at the point where there's a deadlock -- >> the recording is less than four minutes long and it's between the judge and lawyers for all defendants in the chaka fatah corruption trial. only hours into deliberation, lawyers went into conference with the judge. some saying the foreman sent a note alerting the issue. the records of the conversation have remained under seal. jurors could be seen walking one by one with a court official. no one will confirm if they were individually questioned by the judge or lawyers in the case. by friday morning, juror 12, a man who sat with the jury through five weeks of testimony was not in the jury box. instead he was replaced by a female alternate. this is the fourth juror replaced in the case where the government complains fattah, a u.s. congressman used a network of friends to secure an illegal campaign loan and paid it back. he's accused of taking bribes and taking campaign money to pay off his son's college debt. the judge

nbc 10's deanna durante live in king of prussia. you found out how the suburbs are cashing in and where all the visitors are staying. >> reporter: a big chunk of them will be in the king of prussia area. one of the main reasons, this place, a shopping destination that many people will be traveling across the country and hope to get a chance to see. that is when they're not down in the city at the convention. from donkeys. to buttons. when it came to luring democratic national convention planners, tourism officials in montgomery county say they did something right. >> $17 million impact for montgomery county, so, again, it just came together and it just kept increasing and increasing and increasing. >> reporter: from alabama to guam, all will be staying in montgomery county hotels. >> we want the hotels filled. >> reporter: they will be. the delegates are booking family travel and coming before the convention and staying longer. >> that's amazing. >> reporter: the team at the valley forge convention and visitors bureau says work didn

that's where nbc 10's deanna durante is live this evening. >> deah narieanndeanna, what ar about her case? >> reporter: they did not want to talk about what happened. police at this point are not saying much about the case as well. it was a family member who discovered 62-year-old denise barger. one relative told me she was quiet, unassuming, and didn't deserve this. differe tredffrin police are not saying how she died. on this street off 252, there's not a lot of traffic and residents who talked with us off camera say they don't remember seeing anything out of the ordinary. she was a recent widow and tax records show the home was sold on june 10th. barger was found dead inside seven days later. now, neighbors here again not saying much about what happened here. some of them saying they don't think if someone was responsible for the crime they would come back to the neighborhood. police will only say that her cause of death, blunlts force trauma, and they're calling this a homicide. live from berkeley, dina deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> a car was stopped with a car full of weapons.

. >> deanna durante was back in the courtroom all day long. she joins us live now outside the federal courthouse. >> reporter: prosecutors say when it came came to his wage taxes to money he needed to qualify for a mortgage, shack came fatah got help from his friends. the defense team's co-defendant is a loyal friend. prosecutors say he was the money guy whenever he needed cash. most the day was spent on the fatah bank records. prosecutors say they show that they didn't have the cash to support a former nanny's college expenses or a new vacation home and they say fatah sr. did not have the funds to make a philadelphia wage tax payment. they say in each case the congressman got money from herb vitt vitterman. the checks were deposited in the account and a check was written to cover the congressman's wage tax payment for the city of philadelphia. prosecutors say without it they would not have been able to complete the purchase of vacation home. they say without the promise to pay for the former nanny's college tuition, fatahs would not have been

nbc's deanna durante has the latest. >> reporter: about a half hour ago the judge told the jurors not to watch media reports or check social media and they'll be back tomorrow to deliberate. the congressman has been sitting in the courtroom, occasionally checking his phone and chatting with others. aside from a casual greeting, the congressman is not saying much. it appears the jury has not had many questions leading some to wonder how long it will take before deciding if the congressman is convicted of corruption, bribery or misusing his office for personal gain. prosecutors say he hid an illegal campaign loan. they also say he diverted campaign funds to pay down his son's college loan debt. four jurors have been replaced since the start of the trial. the defense is maintaining all actions were legal and the congressman had no knowledge of the loan or the repayment and pointed out multiple times there's no document with the congressman's name on it. >>> four jurors have been replaced. the latest replaced on friday morning. it became clear there was some sort of issue thursday afterno
