they say the robber pretended to be a customer at the store in south 18th street in south philadelphia late sunday night when the cashier opens the register, the man pulls out a gun and demands money. he did get away with some cash. >> congressman chaka fattah will meet with house members today to figure out how soon he will step downfalloing his corruption conviction. fattah submitted his resignation yesterday but said he would stay in office until october 3rd just before his sentencing. house speaker paul ryan wants him to leave now. on tuesday, a jury found fattah guilty of taking an illegal $1 million loan for a failed mayoral campaign and using taxpayer money to pay it back. despite his conviction, a pastor of his church in fattah's district still points to the good that fattah did. >> he definitely did a lot for the community. he was present, he was available, and he was around for the people. so i'm hoping that things work out all the way around, and that he's on our prayer list. >> if fattah resigns now rather than later, governor tom wolfe would have to call for a special elec

at least one person is dead in south philadelphia this morning after a fire broke out inside the home. nbc 10's matt delucia is live at that home on south taylor street. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: vai, firefighters did find one person inside, an elderly man. you can see some of the folks who were displaced from this fire, some of the neighbors. this is a row home area here on the 1700 block of taylor street. you see this block filled with row homes. right there in the middle, that is where this fire happened. just before 2:00 this morning, you might even be able to see some of the firefighters there just behind the cars. they've been going through, trying to determine the cause of this fire. take a look at some video we shot early on when the fire activity was still going on at the scene. search and rescue crews showed up and found that man dead on the first floor. as i mentioned, the fire is still under investigation. they're still working to determine if he had died as a result of fire or because of something else. at this point, it's unknown if there were working smok

nbc 10's katy zachry is live in south philadelphia to explain. katy? >>> under philadelphia mayor jim kenney, half a dozen people schools in the city will be transformed into community schools in just a matter of months for the start of the school year this fall. this one behind me from south philadelphia was one of the first to apply for the change. now, here they educate kids who are pre-k through 8th grade. they've become a community school in a lot of ways. it's based on the idea that the building would be used for much more than just teaching kids. for example, during the day, a medical clinic or counseling center would be open to students and the community or after school the building would have classes or resources for parents. they've already started some of that here. >> how does that benefit the kids here during the school day? >> because it's giving them some direction. it's griiving them support they might not get at home. many of our parents work very long hours and are not always around in the evening. >> reporter: south works school here
