once it get -- into the bahamas. it's f it's not a tropical system before -- bahamas. if it's not a tropical system before it arrives the latest models track this toward the central portion of the gulf of mexico. what that means for us that the point, just an enhanced rain chance next week. >>> and it keeps changing so we need to keep our eye on that. thank you very much. >>> and right now, clean-up is underway in indiana and you can see. why look at the devastation there. this in the wake of tornadoes. the national weather service gave us new information. they tell us it was a single long supercell thunderstorm producing six tornadoes in the state's mid section. there were 12 tornadoes in all. thankfully it's just property damage and power outages. no deaths or serious injuries reported. one tornado was an ef-3 with 165 miles per hour winds. >>> and that was actually the one that hit the city and leveled a starbucks there. you can see the coffee shop. it collapses on itself. and then in the almost completely flattened. gop vice presidential candidate and indiana gover

once in the bahamas it starts to form. then is moves over extreme south florida, gets into the gulf. by the way, let's just say happens. i'm going to tell you right now, this is probably going to change but if it did, very minimal impacts here. then is mrojts -- projects the storm to move west and that will continue to make the storm much larger. so trust me when i tell you, southeast texas and louisiana are watching this very closely this very same computer model yesterday had it up here. then it brings it over to here. that's just a 12-hour difference in computer modelling time. that's why i have to say we have to wait another 24 to 36 hours to get a handle on what's going to happen with this. another very reliable model, gfs, do you know what this does with it? brings it to the east coast of our state would give us very little impact around here. so we have to watch and wait. that's all we can do. you can always head to myfoxhurricane.com a 92 degrees for a high. lots of heat, scattered storms until we get into the week

another feature we're watching, bahamas we have 90-degree water temperatures. as you know tropical systems feed on that warm ocean water. that is how they get their energy so. as this continues to move through the bahamas heading into the weekend it should intensify, how much so we really can't tell you. i mean the intense fee forecasts are terrible after three days. but there is the potential based on history this could intensify significantly as it heads into florida. so the favorable conditions are temperatures, they are going to be very warm but also the wind shear we talk bcht upper level winds that can disrupt storms. no wind shear now, in fact very low. so two indications this has the potential to intensify as it continues to head to the north and west. as far as us i don't think it's going to be half of the storm as we have the entire peninsula to protect us here. but florida has to watch this, jacksonville. eventually for us, gusts of heavy rainfall as we head into sunday and into monday. 95. what happens in the gulf? we can't talk about that yet. it's

pretty sure it's going to head toward the bahamas. between now and when it reaches the bahamas, it's not in a very good area to strengthen. that's good news. the bad news is, it enters an area where it could strength and that would be just off florida's coastline pool. early next week sunday, monday and tuesday, depending on the strength and at the verbal track of this system, it will determine its effects on us. at this point, adding in a higher rain chance with and the model is a little more -- has this storm stronger as it head out of the bahamas and into the eastern portion of the gulf of mexico. on the other hand, on the weaker side, the american model has it barely even a tropical system into the bahamas and only once again increases our rain chances sunday, monday and tuesday. stay tuned, right? at least i have an eight day temperature trend. and look at this, i-75, this is through bradenton and sarasota. state road 64 to fruitville road. that's a nine minute commute. and then down in sarasota, coming up from clark, to state ro

somewhere in puerto rico, possibly, toward the bahamas or maybe florida. all of our computer models have converged on usually you don't get this much agreement in the track. but whatever this entity is. whatever it turns into, we know it's heading in the general direction of the bahamas saturday, florida sunday. the question is what will the intensity be. and once it gets here towards florida, where is it going to go after that? let me give in to a little bit about we have numerous computer models. we have our long range ones. we have the european computer model, and our american what we all the gfs model. we've got both of these on the same map to show you where they dive earning. as we go throughout wednesday's forecast then we'll fast forward just a little bit and go in to areas on thursday into friday. both of them have it somewhere near the bahamas as we go friday into saturday, both of them keep it kind of a weak type system, nothing that would be, you know, a horrible storm coming towards florida, or the bahamas. but regardless, still rainy weather,

right now, 45 miles per hour winds and pretty sure it's going to head right into the bahamas. that's what every model says. the problem s once it gets into -- the problem is, once it gets into the bahamas, it will have the possibility of strengthening quickly and we don't like that because it's close to florida. saturday afternoon, most of the models take it through south florida and into the gulf of mexico. which would increase our rain chances locally. of course, how big those rain chances are and how big the effects will be determined by the eventual track as well as how strong that system is. of 92 degrees. that's above average. so at 5:08, i have an hour-by- hour look at today so you can plan it out in weather and traffic on the 8s. and leslee has the commute. >>> which is good. thank you for the dry roads. everything looks good. palm harbor area, state road 54 to tampa road, just a 12 minute commute through land o'lakess and up to speed as well. and taking a look -- land o'lakes, up to speed as well. and taking a look at 275 at hillsborough avenue. and you can see most o

hazy sunshine watching that disturbance right now in the southern bahamas. that could become hermine and then move toward florida ultimately the gulf of mexico. we'll talk more in dee tal about that. but we continue to find a lot of sunshine out there. dry conditions. but it's still pretty hot. look at the temperatures. 92 in philadelphia right now. 92 in atlantic city. we have low 90s in dover. and down the shore we're looking hot as well. look at ocean city. 90. 90 on the bore walk. 88 right now in avalon. bottom line if you're stepping outdoors, hazy sunshine still kind of humid for tonight. by 11:00 o'clock, 78 degrees. so here's closer look at that disturbance. around the southern bahamas trying to get little better organized about a 60% chance over the next five days that it could develop into something tropical but look at the the spaghetti plots moving it through the florida keys and into the gulf of mexico. it could go a little farther to the west. could go a little farther to the north back toward florida in the coming days so we'll follow that. te

and it will eventually head into the bahamas. now, the visible satellite imagery is easier to pick out the spin in the atmosphere. you can see it right there. not a lot of cloud cover on this side. you want to look for a counterclockwise spin. all the storms are on the southeast side. that's the area of low pressure. that's what we would consider the center and what we're tracking. that's going to head into the at that point, it's going to not only enter the warm waters of the gulf of mexico. but it's also going to enter into an atmosphere that's a little more conducive unfortunately for development. after that, as we head into monday and tuesday, a lot of computer models take it into the central eastern gulf of mexico. which would mean it would draw out tropical storm for us. which is eye i'm bringing rain chances up. let me give you the short-term guideline. typical hot summer days today an of storms mainly in the afternoon. but the most rain and any wind from this system that we would see, coming on monday and tuesday. but dep

i think in a couple of days, it will move towards the bahamas, at least the turks and caicos. this is a zone where the water is very warm. this should be minimal shear, and if high pressure builds overhead, this could be an environment that will favor some intensification. what's kind of disconcerning is e the european model has been pretty much locked in now for a couple of runs of a storm developing east of florida as a hurricane and moving west across t otmpossible it cld be up here. it could be down here. that's the concern, is something coming at us from the east. if it stays south of us, even andrew that cut across miami really had minimal impacts for our viewers. it was really well south of us. we'll see how this plays out in the days ahead. certainly, certainly something to pay attention to. we're not on tv. don't forget, myfoxhurricane.com, and i'm twitter with new model data as soon as it comes out. becoming clear tonight and down to 78. storms fire up again tomorrow, . today's high was 95 going 92 tomorrow and more 90s on thursday with afternoon storms. then in the

getting into the bahamas it's going to enter into an area more favorable for development. at the same time moving northwest n to skedaddler off shore. that's going to allow for it to turn a little bit. and the very latest computer models are showing that turn. the problem is, and they are disagreeing completely on the state of the system at that point. the gfs reliable model, basically says well not going to be any too to it. just big old rain storm. that's what the very latest gfs is. it does bring all of it the west coast of florida. european model, which is also very a very reliable model. track forecast pretty much the same. but this is saying it will be an a little butt stronger perhaps a tropical storm as it comes up west coast of florida. what i'm telling you right now. here at thursday morning we're talking about next tuesday morning. we've got plenty of time to watch this. plan for some heavy rain. if it takes a path like that and puts all that moisture on eastern side. we will have to deal with heavy rain next week. rest of it couple more days until it emerge dom

the tropical system moving through the bahamas bringing wind and rain. where it is headed next nd what it means for the bay area. good morning, everyone, and welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm melanie michael in for gayle. >> and i'm gene ramirez. >>> a lot of people are waking happening in the tropics, leigh? >> reporter: exactly. people are concerned about 99l, and that's a tropical wave struggling at best. gaston is also out there, and the next 24 to 48 hours, we don't have to worry about either too much. here is gaston, and you can see it will strengthen and stay out to sea. literally not a soul has to worry about this except for the shipping issues, and this is the low, and it's very unorganized at this point. we disorganized for sure, but over the next 48 hours as it heads through the potential, it will get stronger. if it stays on the southern path over cuba, it will basically never develop, and that will interact with the land. more than likely it will head between cuba and florida this is tomorrow evening. once it gets into the gulf of mexico,

what happens over the bahamas will be key as far as the intensity. this is the window this has to become something stronger like a hurricane. category 1 or something like that heading into the southern end of the state. we know for us we'll get a plume of tropical rainfall. we though heavy rains will be that way. the potential risk for downpours coming up sunday and monday. the intensity that is still to be determined is checking back with us once we get a center point there, the models will be able to do a much better job to let us know where this is going. the forecast will likely change. so that's why you have to keep in tune to this one. we don't have a storm yet to be able to completely forecast here accurately. very low confidence forecast at this point here. you are looking good there's dry air up above to the north. quiet conditions across the i- 10. farther down to the south, we have enough moisture. i think we'll have 40% chance of rainfall this afternoon that forms the thunderstorms as we check in on the feels-like temperatures with the ho

it may strengthen over the waters of bahamas. flora happen for five or six days. that's not a sure thing. we have to wait and see how the models play out. it would be the first time a hurricane has hit florida since way back in 2005. if memory is right, there's been about 66 hurricanes in the atlantic since wilma hit florida back in october of 2005 and none of those 66 have made land fall in florida. northeast winds across our state. watching just a general area of low pressure, moving over some fairly dry air. this has been a struggle today to get going and even tomorrow, does not look like it's going to be much. here's the dry air in red. the models do indicate the environment improving for tropical development in a day or two if the storm will kind of get to the northwest -- hopefully it's broken up by the mountains of puerto rico. there's invest 99 l. it's called an invest because it's being investigated. you have the potential track moving over the bahamas and potentially getting into the gulf of mexico. it's all about the blocking eye over the carolinas. tha

that has to be watched because it has a chance to get toward the vicinity of the bahamas or even the and then right here this is the newest tropical depression and this is what could become the next tropical storm. that one i mentioned that could eventually wander toward the bahamas and this is all of the different computer models taking it in that direction about five days from now. that will be monitored and the one that is like -- likely to be gaston, you can see where they are taking that one. from now. the second half of august, september and early october is the peak of the hurricane season. it is like right on cue. it is getting more active. and speaking of active, you know the story. when you get a warning of a tornado that time of night is very, very unusual. maybe once every 50 years we get a tornado meaning the overnight period and sun to help it. it is needed in the upper level disturbance. it is a half mile long in acton. if you think of how frequent tornadoes are, in massachusetts anywhere from 1 to 3 is how we average a year in terms of tornadoes. new england afternoon

this storm looks like to trick a track toward the bahamas an close to it. and some models taking it north but most of them want to bring it into the direction of miami or orlando or key west. this is the 12:00 on sunday view, and by early next week we could have a problem in south florida. and then gaston away from africa is about to pop up to category one status and could be a two at some point and it looks to curve up to the northern atlantic. we could have rip currents from that. low humidity and 87 degrees and more sunshine tomorrow, and warmer and comfortable humidity levels, and then 89 on thursday, partly sunny and humid but still not near oppressive. friday hot and humid and 94 degrees and uncomfortable, and afternoon and evening could be a spotty thunderstorm. it drops off on saturday with a high of 93 and partly sunny and 89 on sunday. hopefully saturday night is a-okay for the union. they have a home match on saturday. and then we get to monday and that is the return of the high humidity sara with sultry conditions and high of 89 and maybe a mond

tropical wave near puerto rico will likely develop over the next few days as it bahamas. could be near south florida over the weekend. after that models diverge, some take into gulf, some over fl. things will likely change over the coming days, but there are no indications it will have any impact on our weather for the next 6-7 days. remember, the nhc track forecasts are much more accurate than their strength forecasts.
