. >>> let's check in back with janice huff. you have your eye on some potentially troubling weather. >> we still have that severe thunderstorm watch for the potential of severe storms. and somerset counties. the biggest problem will be north and west of the city. regardless, keep an eye on the sky for the rest of this evening. all the warnings are in pennsylvania, but they're very close to the delaware river as the storms are about to cross the river into western new jersey. quite a bit of lightning, some downpours. could be some damaging winds because they've had a history of producing some damaging winds. we're seeing a few storms south of hazelton, they're headed towards pike county and warren county. that's where you have to watch out first because that's where they'll be within the hour. by 7:00, you can see the line moving into those areas and crossing into new jersey. might see a storm hold up over the hudson valley and into connecticut by 9:00. after that, they weaken. we go into midnight and we're left with some cloud

janice, good afternoon to you. tell us how this could potentially impact folks here at home. >> we are watching two storms, as you mentioned. also in the pacific, a couple of storms that could hawaii. we'll also mention that. we've got hurricane gaston. the good news is this is not going to affect land. tropical depressions 8 and 9 will move into the gulf of mexico in 12 to 24 hours. depression number 8 off the coast of the carolinas here, we think brushing the outer banks sometime tuesday into wednesday. we think as a minimal tropical storm, but it's not getting its act together. could see rain bands from the storm and gusty winds from that system, we'll watch that. this one is more pressing, because we think it has more time over open water to organize. and we do potentially think there is going to be landfall within the next couple of days. whether it's a storm or a minimal hurricane, we'll see the same effects. we think the computer models are coming into agreement across north florida into central florida. her

meteorologist janice dean is watching it all for us. janice, where are these things all going? >> as you mentioned earlier, it's busy. let's talk about the pacific. twin hurricanes moving toward the hawaiian islands, madeline and lester. there is madeline's past, and there's a lester's path. but both in the cones of uncertainty. hawaii needs to prepare for a double storm that could be coming their way over the next couple of days. we'll certainly keep you posted. the atlantic basin, gaston not going to hurt anybody. trip to depression number 8 and 9, both of which we think will get names probably within the next couple of hours. our next advisory coming out at 5:00 p.m. we'll see new tracks from both of these systems. let's talk about it. the past six hours you see off the coast, this is number 8, trip to depression number 8. we'll see some gusty winds, rough surf in the outer bands. trip tropical depression number 9 has the potential to be a strong tropical storm or hurricane over the next couple of days, perhaps making landfall thursday morning in florida. heavy rainfall goin

we start with janice huff. >> we're going to start with the temperatures because that's where we start and then we add in the humidity. lots of 90-degree temperatures on the map. right around 90 in poughkeepsie, newburgh, morristown. it's 91 i however, the dew points are in tropical to an awful range. all these numbers are in the 70s. this is a measure of how much moisture is in the atmosphere. the closer this number is to the actual temperature, the worse it feels. in most cases it is above 75 degrees. almost 80 in newburgh. it feels just absolutely terrible. you have a heat index of 105 there. feels like 106 in sussex. 100 in the city and farmingdale. long branch, 102. this is dangerous heat out there. we have an excessive heat warning for just about the entire tri-state area. where you're not under the warning, you're under an advisory. the heat index will remain above 80s by 10:00. tomorrow we're at 105, 107, and 110 in some spots. then saturday. we'll track these and more coming up on the heat back to you. >> this is arguably one of the worst places to be in the heat. the subway i

. >> janice huff is here. she's got more on exactly what we can expect. >> we still have that same air mass with the tropical downpours from the weekend. we can still see the same possibilities in terms of flash flooding. tonight through or after rockland counties and the hudson valley through northern new jersey into northeastern pennsylvania, central new jersey counties as well all the way down to monmouth the flash flooding potential will continue through tonight. some light showers now in parts of pike county sliding into northern sussex county, but no heavy downpours. that is still back toward the west into pennsylvania where they've seen a bit of flash flooding already. in the meantime, we are expect m so around 10:00 continuing into the overnight around 1:00 the city might get a downpour briefly around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and then things quiet down. >>> flooding caused big problems for a lot of people for much of the weekend and today a lot of those folks spent the day cleaning up. that, as they

that one of the victims was her sister 54-year-old janice trunk. we talked to her overnight shortly after she arrived at the scene, 125 forest avenue in ambler. >> she called me every day. we spoke every day a million times a day. she was a good sister. >> reporter: mid morning the coroner removed the body as friends and family gathered outside the complex to console one another and trying to figure out who would want to harm janice. by all accounts a hard working kind woman who worked at a diner in lansdale to support her 19-year-old son who shared the second floor apartment with her. friends said janice's boyfriend also stayed here frequently with the mother and son. >> i want to know who shot one of my best friends and why and where are they and, you know, to have them caught. >> reporter: police were called to the apartment shortly before midnight last night after neighbors heard the gunfire. many, however, didn't realize what had happened until this morning. ly. >> i didn't hear anything. we did not hear anything. i mean, we had fans on but we

family members tell "action news" one of the victims is this woman, 354-year-old janice trunk. trunk's sister said they spoke around 8:30 last night and she was upbeat. it is unclear why she was shot. >> we spoke everyday, a million times a day. according to trunk's sister, janice lived at the apartment complex for ten years with her son. trunk's son was at a friend's home when the shooting happened. >>> police are investigating a deadly shooting in the tacony section of philadelphia. a 28-year-old man was found shot once in the head. it happened in the 57 hit and run block of keystone street. police have not made any arrests. >>> two thieves forced their way inside an olney restaurants and made off with cigarettes and cash. the surveillance video was teen inside the chinese restaurant along the 5100 block of north 5th street back on july 20th. the suspects broke in took two cartons of cigarettes and cash and walked out. >>> now to accuweather it's another hot and humid day, there's a chance of torrential downpours at any time this afternoon. this is a live picture, sky6 live h

that weather no joke, janice. >> no joke, and flooding is one of the biggest killers of americans. unfortunately as meteorologists we can tell you the general area where we think flooding is going to happen. to pinpoint the exact location is still extremely difficult. that's what happened over the weekend with the maryland flooding. in some cases, two to four inches, and in isolated areas they received over six inches in just a couple of hours. that's why we saw incredible damage in the area south and west of baltimore. you can see that flooding, which really happened between 6 and 8:30 p.m. on the weekend, around the baltimore region. the pictures are just incredible. and i mean, my heart is just out of my chest looking at that video. people need to be so careful. that's why we say turn around, don't drown when you see flooding. you can see the radar across the ohio valley, mid-atlantic and northeast. we have a slow moving system. if people are taking their vacation along the east coast, today not so great. tomorrow, improved. we'll see a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the
