lift is the radar that's scanning across portions of the east bay. as we go ahead and get you into exactly what storm ranger is because we know a lot of you are weather buffs but some of yu may be learning something in terms of new technology. it will give us a two-dementional view of storms, gives rain intensity and hail and how big it might be. we know we get hail when winter storms come in across the area. and the x-band radar helps to detect wildfire smoke and some of that has been moving in our atmosphere most recently. here's the other problem we run into radar in the bay area traditionally. this is where our typical radar is located. it's at 3,335 feet. as zahns around the radar beam, a lot of times by the time it gets to san francisco it overshoots the top of storms and we can miss some data. with storm ranger on wheelsing we can drive it to a location where we think storms will hit the most or smoke from storm. we do have storm ranger fired up. we saw it out there in the field. today we have it in the east bay. right now specifically in dubl

the radar is down in queen creek. those winds are going down toward the radar to the southeast. the red areas winds are flowing away from the radar. off to the northwest and when i see the two colors sandwich side-by-side that tells me that this storm is down bursting right now. winds are racing out of the bottom of that storm they are spreading out. i have some winds going toward the storm and some going away. this is where we see damage at of severe storms. this is when the wind gusts and hit 60 miles per hour and start downing trees and power lines. i need a producer or somebody to start looking at srp and aps kids i imagine we could start to see some power outages pop-up . we will have someone trucks out fo if we have power going out we will let you know about it. in the meantime the biggest threats are in tempe and south scottsdale right near the 202 and 101 interchange. the severe thunderstorm is kicking out very heavy rain and really strong winds. >> thank you. >>> we will give you an update right now. flight aware.com saying that 14 flights are delayed out of sky harbor
