doug: welcome back. communities in north carolina, after hurricane matthew unleashed powerful winds and torrential rains. two more bodies were found this weekend in cars submerged in floodwaters, bringing that death toll in that state to 26. areas like this referred to as disaster zones, entire neighborhoods are under water while just miles away others appear hardly hit. while some areas are receding, the governor says it's not over yet. >> there are still many, many difficult days ahead for north carolina and many of our by this incredible hurricane that has been with us now for over 10 days. doug: flooding triggered by the hurricane killed at least 43 people in the u.s. and more than 500 people in haiti. antoinette: the northwest dealing with their own powerful storm, the remnants of a pacific typhoon barreled down on parts of oregon and washington, snapping trees and power lines with winds up to 80 miles per hour. tens of thousands were without power after that storm made landfall last serious injurie

doug: it is 5:15. more information about a boat killed when the boat he was on hit a jetty near miami beach. a medical examiner says fernandez had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash. he was also legally drunk. investigators have not yet determined who was steering the boat when it crashed. doug: a powdery substance forced the evacuation of an opera house in new york city. investigators now say that substance may be the ashes of a person who loved opera, spread by a man attending the opera. police say he sprinkled the ashes into the orchestra pit during an intermission. the incident forced officials to cancel the remainder of the show , along with a second performance. police say they don't believe there was any criminal intent but disposal of the ashes may violate city health codes. for the bruins and losses for the black and gold. winners of six straight games and two cup was terrific. this was in the second, only one goal in the game. and it was enough. the bruins win in detroit, 1-0. bra

doug? doug: thank you. a dramatic rescue caught on camera a driver cause add two-car crash before his vehicle ended up down an embankment yesterday in palm bay, the vehicle going up in flames as witnesses and police tried to get the man out. eventually, he was pulled to safety. everybody nearby formed a human chain to help pull him up out of that embankment. police say the man is expected to recover. today, bicycle safety activists will hold a rally at cambridge city hall after the deaths of earlier by a truck in porter square. amanda phillips back in june by a truck near inman square. no charges were filed. advocates today are calling for changes like protected bike lanes at intersections, lower speed limits across cambridge as a whole, and restricting semi trailer operation in parts of the city. the rally begins at 4:30. emily: the mbta is preparing to hold a meeting about a string of green trolly derailments. the audit f s derailments last year and five this year including one in may. doug: and a good saturday morning to you. i'm doug meehan. it's 8:30. shayna: i'm shayna seymour here with mike wankum. doug: we've been talking about this hurricane going over a that's good news there. let me show you where matthew is at right now. it is down to a category one storm moving to the northeast at 12 miles per hour. maximum sustained winds, and it's hard to find the eye now, but maximum sustained winds right now are about 85 miles an hour here just as it's moving toward the charleston area. this red box is actually a tornado watch box. one of the by-products of a hurricane moving inland is outbreaks of tornadoes. the winds down in hilton head, wind gusts just in the last the winds are strong along the coast right now, and you're seeing tons and tons of moisture moving in as well as that storm surge. you'll be hearing a lot about damage along the coast as we talk about the daytime hours today through south carolina and into north carolina. that storm will then continue its right-hand turn becoming a tropical system and moving completely away

doug: i'm doug meehan. hug. it really does. is it going to be a wet hug? mike: it's going to be damp, overcast, gray skies, a little drizzle here or there. but not any big rain event like yesterday. yesterday, some places picking up almost two inches of rain. let me show you this system. this has a lot of rain as well. over the ocean, as it moves northward, we could actually see some real serious flooding in haiti. we could see anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of rain eadsly. wh t it's cutting right here haiti. yesterday it looked like it would be towards jamaica. now it's haiti and cuba. even though it's a category three storm at this time, matthew looks like it's going to slow down as it heads through the bahamas. that's why we're talking about next friday morning that it's off the coast of florida. it may have some impact on our weather. the trend is pushing offshore. we'll talk more in detail in a few moments. gray skies, drizzle. but there is some out there as you've stepped out and noticed this morning. today we'll look for a gray day, hit or miss showers.
