eastern aleppo has been under siege since july for month sdwz has been taking its toll. we saw them back in august break that siege briefly. it was for a few days but the regime managed to regain ground and put eastern aleppo and 275,000 residents under siege yet again. this is a tactic that syrian regime has been accused of, described as starve or surren r surrender. we have seen this in other parts of syria. the united nations estimates there are nearly a million people living under siege in eastern aleppo and other parts of the country. the vast majority are in rebel held areas and we are seeing the siege take its toll and when you talk to people there and we have been talking to so many residents over the past few weeks and there has always been this fear that what happens in aleppo happens in other places. where it is going to be the starve or surrender where people will have no optioning but to surrender. there was a feeling that this was a mat of time before we saw this playing out. >> there is a statement from unicef that points out an estimated half a million ch

to try and get aid into eastern aleppo. that has been critical because know we've heard the warnings that eastern aleppo is not only doing this bottom boredment cam tan, it's also starvation of the siege. they say the u.n. has been working with the different parties involved whether the russians or the rebel group to try and find a humanitarian pause, to bring and get aid into the city. the last thing we heard from u.n. officials on friday, they said that they have some sort of an agreement from the rebel group but they're still waiting for the green light from the russians and the syrian regime. this is something, of course, everyone had keep an eye on today. from the united nations, we expect some sort of talks between the syrian regime and the united nations. we have seen this in the past, natalie. all these talks and agreements have failed in the past. even during cease fires in the past. the united nations did not have enough guarantees to be able to get this desperately needed aid into eastern aleppo. so it is a very

according to residents of eastern aleppo that we've spoken to, they say early on sunday they received these various text messages that they believe are from the syrian regime, really with a warning, addressed to the rebels in eastern aleppo, but also to the residents, a warning, an ultimatum, giving people 24 hours, telling the rebels to lay down their weapons, or even leave the city, and they're really warning of a military assault that they say is going to be launched on eastern aleppo. the people that we've spoken to, carol, say this is something they've seen in the past, these sorts of messages, they've received them in the past on leaflets that have been dropped on their neighborhoods or broadcast through state media. they feel this is part of the psychological warfare and intimidation tactics to spread fear amongst the population in eastern aleppo. but, at the same time, there is this real sense of apprehension amongst the people in eastern aleppo, those that we have spoken to are absolutely terrified, carol, of what they feel might be an all-out military assault by the syrian r
