nbc bay area's bob redell is live in san jose. thousands and thousands of people, bob. snoob good morning to you, kris. finally here in the rock springs neighborhood, the water is going back to where it belongs. right back into coyote creek. you're looking at the end of a pump line here, the city of san jose has been pumping round the clock water out of this neighborhood. if you look at the debris there on that chain link fence you can see how high the water came up during the flood earlier this week. this was one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods, but because of the round the clock pumping as you walk out here onto rock springs road, one of the main streets in this neighborhood, you could see that the water was removed. but what remains is that mud. it's mud mixed with sewage. this neighborhood will remain under a mandatory evacuation until workers are able to scrape up this muck. the city is able to inspect these homes, and pg&e is able to restore power and gas. some residents, however, are refusing to wait and have already come back to see what's left of their homes.
