kristen, you're a pollster. is the public on trump's side on this. >> the polling is pretty divided on this question about the immigration ban itself. you have about half of the people in america who think it's a good idea, about half who think it's a bad idea. generally you find that with anything that donald trump does four out of ten americans just really don't like it. they strongly disapprove of him. they want to see him impeached according to data i saw this week but you have the rest of america that either loves him or at least is looking just been the first two weeks there are some folks that are nervous. they'll see things like the rollout of this immigration ban and they'll wonder is this the strong leadership that we were really looking for? is this the competent management donald trump said he would bring to the white house? but overall because it's only two weeks some folks will give him at least a little bit of leeway to make a few little mistakes here and there as long as he gets back on track man

i want to go to kristen welker, live at the white house. kristen, how did this go on? if you turn tv on throughout the night, it was a different story. >> reporter: what a day at the white house. it was a day of fast moving developments, just to reset the table. it started yesterday during the day with mounting pressure on national security adviser flynn because of revelations that he had, in fact, spoken to russia's ambassador about sanctions before president trump was sworn into office, then had given the vice president and other top staffers misinformation and then that bombshell last night, steph, when we learned from "the washington post" that the acting attorney general, who, by the way, the president ultimately fired because she didn't defend his travel ban, but she warned the white house flynn could be susceptible to blackmail by russian officials. ultimately, i am told the pressure just became too much. this was a torture decision. remember, this was someone who was very loyal to the president. that's something that matters greatly to the president. but, ultim

kristen, to you first. there has been a blurry of activity from this white house, is this a taste of president trump simply doing what he promised he would do during the campaign? in other words, is he satisfying his base with some of these actions that he is proposing? >> taking action on dodd-frank and financial regulation is something that republicans have been hungry to do for a long time. so president trump by tackling this priority is doing something republicans, right in line with something they've been itching to do. what is going to be interesting is that a lot of folks who voted for donald trump for president are not necessarily traditional republicans, not necessarily limited government types, in many cases, they are sometimes skeptical of the financial industry and do not love big banks. so for president trump he's going to have to make the case for why this is good for economic growth and why it is good for the little guy, why it is the sort of thing that is still going to allow him to make sur
