for those of you who do not know, timothy thyssen, a.k.a. tim tyson, tim is the senior research scholar at the center for documentary studies at duke. visiting professor of american christianity and southern culture. at the duke divinity school. and professor of american city at unc chapel hill. he is a very inclusive guy. he has an appointment -- we will not talk that tonight. he is the author of -- and a book called radio free, robert of williams and the roots of black power. tim also served on an executive board of the north carolina naacp. tim can tell you more about, way more about this book than i can. i just want to say that he does a marvelous job of putting emmett till murder and lynching into a context of american history. tim's earlier book is about a similar incident that happened 15 years later in oxford north carolina. about 25 miles from here. and i learned just a few years ago about another similar incident that happened three blocks from here. at the intersection of carr boulevard and ninth street. where a black, during the
