mississippi is a very rural state, and we have some of the toughest health problems, too. we have the fewest providers per capita, and the highest rates of heart disease and type two diabetes. these health disparities and barriers to access are what drove the university of mississippi medical center to experiment and innovative with telehealth. one of the many mississippi telehealth success stories is the diabetes telehealth network, a remote patient onitoring program that provides rural mississippi patients who have uncontrolled diabetes with routine access to a provider through a medical ablet. this partnership began following 200 chronically ill patients in the underserved mississippi delta. the technology allowed providers to monitor and care for the patients remotely on a daily basis, following their vital signs and intervening when things didn't look good. throughout the course of the first year, zero of the 100 patients were admitted to the hospital. think about that. no emergency room visits for any of these previously chronically ill patients. this is an excellent

we have even in the state of mississippi we have a summer science and engineer programming with mississippi state university. we just started the three plus three program. tougaloo for three years and then mississippi state for three years. engineering programs. bringing diversity in and sending students out so their world view can be enlarged. we don't want to send them out in a world of broad diversity and they are not exposed to it where they have. we need to have that student relationship. recently, dr. lomax talked about this. we are talking about redesigning our general education curriculum and looking at the ways and opportunities we can transform our learning environment and bring it more into 21st century learning experiences for our students. with the help of the lily endowment program, we formed a con sort with two other hbcus. talledega and oak wood. these three institutions came together and put together a folk on how we would look at the guided pathways, curriculum reform and how we would connect with career services. at tougaloo college we focused on collaborating to redesign

all of that still has to go into the mississippi. it flows slowly. we'll have manch flooding on the mississippi river through the upcoming weekend. again, the river flooding is a little closer view of it. here's some of our rivers. the mississippi at chester, record crest is 49. we're at 37. still 1 feet away from there. we won't set records. on smaller rivers, not that small but compared to the mississippi, merrimack is at 36. we still have damage taking place. we still have people out of their homes because of that flooding. today's forecast, chilly in great lakes. beautiful weather for one day. texas, oklahoma, louisiana, arkansas and then watch out tomorrow, chance of severe storms about 12 million people at risk of severe weather from houston through areas of louisiana. we do sneak in a decent day in the mid-atlantic tomorrow. one thing we'll go through, we just finished up with one of the warmest april. the next two weeks look chilly and ray. may will be damp and wet. if you want to plant grass seed, that would be a good idea. now is the time.
