concord. i had done a book similar to this previously about the history of franklin. the publisher created a new company, a new publishing house, and they contacted me about doing another book. area if itose the was a place that was not already chosen. i asked if concord was available because i knew my mom would love to do concord, and it would be a fun thing to collaborate on. >> i think we were just trying to look at at the history of concord and when it was established as a city, and when it became the merrimack county seat. there was a progression of concord's ability to move forward, and looking back was like deja vu in many ways. concord is a city that i had grown up in that seems to be very embracing. i lived in several areas of concord. i got to know many of the neighborhoods, and i could sort of make a comparison that these are people that have already met. they are cordial, friendly, embracing. they want to help. this is what concord was like. concord, of worse, means piece -- course

and we had a big memorial service in front of the statehouse in concord here. you could hear a pin drop over the whole place as the governor got out and spoke, a few other dignitaries and state officials. i got out and spoke for a few minutes. and it was quite, quite moving to say the least. concord, i think, originally a lot ofulled back, as people did throughout the country. the fear of something tragic happening kind of was instilled in a great part in concord here. and the idea that came about of establishing the mcauliffe planetarium here as a tribute to christa was a very exciting thing to see. built originally in 1990, the state established this area we are in now. as a christa mcauliffe planetarium where students and groups from all over the state of new hampshire and other states came in to see planetarium shows on a little bit of the trivia we had around here to christa -- the tribute. in 2009, we added on a huge addition to make this the mcauliffe-sheppard science center, honoring alan shepard the first american in space. and it helped the people of

santa rosa is 107 in concord is 110. oakland is above triple digits and mother nature is helping out. the winds have turned on sure with dish on sure but the east wind is dragging in the smoke and hot air from the central valley is when we were hot. look at the overnight low. 72 will be the low in the layout. that is warm. 80 in livermore and only dropping to 70 in san francisco. part of the reason why is tomorrow will be hot dish hotter than today. we use the same color and shape. this one is strong. in the perfect spot to pull out the wind from the central valley. the ridge hangs out tomorrow and begins to move on sunday. this is wonderful. as soon as monday comes, the ridge is far enough away and it changes the wind direction and drops by 30 degrees. back to normal as soon as monday. saturday is 116 in livermore took an all-time record. antioch is 115 and morgan hill is 110. it will be crazy hot but 10 degrees cooler near the water. not as hot in san francisco or anywhere along the shore. inland it will be hotter by 3

san jose 101 forecast in concord, 115. so some of the records that we will set today, concord certainly going to set a record. liver will as well with 116 and napa will as well with 105 degrees expected today. here's what's going on. the wind is coming out of the east so look at all these -- they are calm winds right now. when it comes out of the east that's bringing in hot air. the west flow helps cool us down and that's not what we're seeing. we are seeing this high pressure, this ridge, that we have been talking about all week moving up towards north of us. so it's actually hovering -- it's going to whoever above northern california right near oregon and that's what's causing this easterly flow. so usually we don't see these high pressure rings extending that far north. but that's what's happening and that's why our temperatures are a lot hotter than we're used to. look at this seven-day forecast. so many triple digits in store. 116 expected inland today. 117 tomorrow. so no break for tomorrow. sunday we may get a littl

our toure begin through concord's history with a two or new hampshire statehouse. -- a tour of the new hampshire statehouse. >> so we are standing in the new hampshire hollow. this room has been in our statehouse, in use since 1819. our building first began being built on september 24, 1816. our first cornerstone was laid , made out of granite. new hampshire is the granite state. by 1819 on the statehouse opened june 2, its doors. this room was just the hall. the only thing in the room were large wooden columns on granite bases. as time went on, it was a cooling area for legislators to come downstairs. it was a place where people would come and gather and meet when they were coming to the statehouse for business. then came the civil war. 1861, new hampshire's men answered the call to arms. they left their homes and many came here to this building. they enlisted. they were given brand new flags and went off to what they hoped would be a short conflict. the flags that are in the case s here are the flags that were brought back by our men. 1865, when the war ended, what was left of our me
