jessica flores reports. >> reporter: good morning. the flames are out but it's still very smoky out here and the charred hillside is left behind. fire crews are monitoring for any flare-ups. meanwhile, folks that live in this community off edwards and 580 spent the night back in their homes after being evacuated yesterday afternoon. now, that fire started around noon. it tore through about 22 acres here. and getting dangerously close to homes. now, firefighters they really fought it from above using air tankers to drop fire retardant and also water making sure to handle this quickly. they didn't want it to spread to nearby homes. they evacuated about 100 homes. residents grabbed pets and belongings waiting to see when they could return. >> it's gotten into that canyon where our house is next to all our houses would be gone. >> now, firefighters gained an upper hand by early afternoon. no homes were damaged. no one was injured. but it was very tense and frightening for a lot of residents who live in the community near the quarry. i liv

kpix 5 jessica flores is live in fremont this morning, with the details. jessica? >> reporter: good morning, kenny. the fbi looked at all law enforcement agencies, nationally, and they say for the second straight year, violent crime is up for 2016. now they surveyed about 16,000 local law enforcement agencies across the country nationally. and 4.1% jump in violent crime. and that includes homicides, robbery, assault and rape. when you compare that to 2015, homicides alone are up 5.3%. property crime went down, 1.3% across the country last year. and in the bay area, here in fremont, they saw a 24.6% rise in violent crime. one of the largest increases in all of the bay area cities. and it is 7.9% increase in property crime. now, berkeley, hayward and san jose, saw an increase about 13%, rise in violent crime. and oakland remains pretty steady, with violent crimes, san francisco, violent crime actually decreased, slightly, 8% and good news for concord, los gatos, san mateo, and walnut creek, which saw it a- drop in violent crime -- saw a drop in violent crime. and in

reporting for kpix5, i'm jessica flores. >> no doubt a close call, but a huge plume of smoke could be seen from many parts of the bay area. wind is pushing it off to the west. the offshore flow is also pushing up the temperatures and fire danger. let's get the latest on that from paul deanno. >>> that's not changing tomorrow. we're looking at the offshore wind continuing. relative humidity this afternoon was down to about 10% in some locations including oakland and in the hills especially where the wind is 20 to 25 miles per hour is where we have the most critical fire danger and we have a red flag warning in effect the next 24 hours. at its minimum today relative humidity was down to 9%. that's hard to do with a flow from the ocean, but currently we have the opposite of that. we have the offshore wind prevelant tomorrow. santa rosa dropped to 11%, oakland 15%, tomorrow the wind from the east and north continues which not only will keep us dry, it will also keep us warm. san francisco's forecasted high, my forecast is 88 degrees, nowhere close to a record but 15 degrees warmer than av
