nfl must respect this. but as you know, gloria, racial in justice, that was central to colin kaepernick reasoning for starting these protest s in the first place. does the president not realize that or just want to avoid the politics? >> sure, he wants to avoid the racial politics. he tried to avoid it, and failed, with charlottesville. because what he wants to say is this is about the flag. and other people might say this is about race, and this is about the first amendment. and this is about people's right to kneel. you can disagree with them. but it is his right to do that. and i think, you know, the president clearly felt the backlash of this from the team owners who have given him lots of money to his campaign in the past, including his friend craft. and, you know, feels backed up against the wall so he had to tweet this isn't about race. but, in fact, it's hard to say that it is about anything else. nobody wants to come out and say, oh, yeah this is about race, and this is why i said this. but it's ha

we're talking about the nfl. the president reportedly told guests at a dinner party, quote, it really caught on. i said what millions of americans were thinking. and as you talked to players and fans across the league, ben, is that what you're hearing? >> well, i think the president definitely tapped into a large part of the american people obviously. he won the presidency, so obviously a lot of people like the things he has to say. in our locker rooms, however, we've had some great conversations. ever since what happened last friday, you saw the protests on that sunday. we were over in london, so we didn't get the news until saturday about what he said about players kneeling. but even today in our locker rooms, it has opened up conversations between black players and white players, older players and younger players. so it's really kind of turning into, i think, a positive thing within the locker room for us. >> you think it's helping at least the players. what about the larger culture outside of the locker room

nfl yesterday was unbelievable. it was solidarity and there was no divide. it's so amazing, what sports can do to everyone in matter the shape or size or race or ethnicity or religion or whatever, people find teams, people find players, people find colours because of sport and they just gravitate towards that and it makes them so happy. it brings people together like none other. we are not going to let, i am not going to let, while i have this platform, to let, while i have this platform, to let, while i have this platform, to let one individual, no matter the power, no matter the impact that he should have or she should have, ever use sport as a platform to divide us. well trump has recently gone on social media to claim the players were being disrespectful by not standing for the anthem. former nfl linebacker rocky boiman who was also a superbowl winner with the indianapolis colts says the movement is becoming more anti—trump than anything else. this was not started by donald trump, this started last year when n

now the nfl says that there is diversity within the community of the nfl. they have a sense of community with their team and that kind of divisive language is not helpful. so falling on weekend, the president who has a way of driving headlines has now stirred up questions and curiosities in the athletic fan community about these responses. i will say when he was at the event, he seemed a sense the crowd cheering when he took that hard stand. he's done that a lot of times in the past on different kinds of issues where he can sense the crowd being with him, taking a patriotic move as he might see it. when it comes to nfl fans, you have much broader population of people who might view that differently. the president certainly bringing a lot of conversation into this weekend based on those comments. alex? >> okay. what else happened at that rally last night? some of the highlights. i want to talk about those. >> well, there were so many. i'll key in on a couple of things that are really in the news right now. of course, the president was there for a special ele
