(hermela)chp says this year alone.. there have been 43 highway shootings across the bay jr and justine (jr stone) in the south bay... police are looking for four suspects involved in an attack on a taxi driver and a possible kidnapping of a woman. the woman was picked up on great america parkway near tasman in santa clara just before two this morning. the cab driver then headed to diridon station in san jose... that is a transit hub not far from the downtown area. the station was closed... and that is when police say the trouble started. investigators say a lexus approached and the four people inside demanded the woman in the cab get out. the taxi tried to drive off but the car stopped it. one of the people in the lexus got out and slashed the cab's tires and attacked the driver. the attackers then pulled the woman out of the taxi and forced her into their lexus and drove off. it is not clear what happened to her... we are told the cab driver is okay. police have limited descriptions of the suspects. we spoke to chp officer shaun bouyea. he said one rescue involved a family with a small child that was trying to escape the fast- moving flames at that atlas peak fire. >> how did you know? they were on the road driving? how did you know they needed to be rescued? >> the helicopter crew started flying around looking for people who appear to be trapped. they could tell which roads were blocked. they would set down and rescue them. there was really no radio communication. they did it visually. >> chp ariel crews have rescued more than 40 since the firestorm started on sunday night. >>> in other news, smart train service will operate today on a limited but free service to help fire the rooms. smart train will serve all stations between the santa rosa downtown station and downtown san rafael. because of power outages and because of closed railroad crossings in the northern part of santa rosa, the station at the sonoma county airport and santa rosa north station will be closed today. a spokesperson said weather conditions may

someone called the chp at about 7 a.m. to tell them that a big-rig went off southbound interstate highway 680 just north of alcosta boulevard and clipped a vehicle on the right shoulder of the highway. chp spokesman officer tyler hahn said the truck continued through a fence and into a tree. the occupants of the vehicle clipped by the big-rig were not hurt. chp officials said the crash has closed northbound san ramon valley road between alcosta boulevard and pine valley road because the truck came to a stop on san ramon valley road. chp officials do not have an estimate for when san ramon valley road will reopen. the driver identity has not been revealed. the highway patrol says he was in his 60s and have been delivering packages as a contract worker for the u.s. postal service. fatigue and lack of sleep are among the aspects they are looking into to determine the cause of the crash.>> being an early morning collision, that is something that we look into. drivers keep log books. we will see what time he started last night

now that reunion took place just behind us at the chp hangar. it was an emotional reunion, not only for the family, but also for the chp crew. this was the first time since the rescue that the chp helicopter crewmembers saw pepe and graciela tomayo, their son jesse and his grandparents. on sunday night as the flames raced through atlas peak, tomayo and his family left just before the home burned to the ground. >> i can see the flames 15, 20 feet high. >> they drove up to a field along the mountain. that's when pilot pete and flight officer whitney lowe saw him and his extended family. they landed the chopper. i said we can take four people and he made the decision who was going to go. a very selfless act on his part. >> i told these guy, please take my family, you know. i'll be here. i'll be all right. >> i was crying. my son, my mom, everybody was. everybody was crying. >> tomayo tried hard not to show his fear. but the flames were close. >> i call my daughter, and i tell her, mi hija, if i don't see you again, remember i love you. and that was

i actually do have a little bit of new information from chp, they started getting calls about a house fire around 10:30 last night and that is what spread to the vegetation and that is what we're dealing with right now. they have shut down the construction on state route 9. so caltrans picked that up at alba, they have that roadway back open. for folks trying to evacuate that is not going to be a concern for you on state route 9, you should be able to get through there freely, those crews picked up early in morning. we do have additional closures in the area as well. bear creek which is sort of a main road through this stretch is closed at state route 9 and again at hawk ridge. i don't have any full closures of highway 17 if you're going to head over that way, we are seeing a little bit of red and yellow there on our traffic flows and that is due to overnight construction. for sure if you're going to be on bear creek canyon road, deer creek road, rons road, dons road, lost valley road, favre ridge or oak ridge those are the areas you want to use caution and get out of there. you shoul
