the home of d.c.'s historic fish market has been transformed into a neighborhood full of shops, restaurants and a whole lot more. team coverage begins with jim hanley who has a look at today's festivities and just how much this neighborhood has changed. jim, what's this i hear about you riding on a yacht? >> reporter: i tell you, you know, you're a nate washingtonian, have we ever seen a transformation like this? the village, though. a few of the things you'll find, behind me, one mile long promenade or boardwalk, if you will and the restaurants are starting to fill up fast. the weather is not deterring anybody. you'll also find plenty of apartments to the tune of almost 900 residential units. we got hotels down here, too, retail along the banks of this washington channel. the anthem which is that 6,000-person arena, if you will, that will be allowing the foo fighters to perform here tonight and a lot of big name concerts coming up in the next two months. also this is just phase one. $2.5 billion later

d.c. fire and ems are still working the scene of an early morning fire. >> the road has been shut down in both directions. melanie alnwick is live in northwest d.c. this morning with the late braking details. melanie. >> reporter: good morning, guys. still a large response on the scene and foxhall road filled with emergency vehicles from reservoir road completely down the block to macarthur boulevard i would say as a no-go zone at this point. we're going to bring you back here to the house, sort of in the center here. this is in the 1600 block of foxhall road. you a at the roof of the house here and you can see that one window that's blown out. that is on the second floor. this fire actually began in the basement where there is a dental office and then spread to the first floor and then had some intrusion into the second floor as well. i talked to a d.c. police officer who was first here on the scene. he said he pulled up, he saw a man running across the street. asked him what was wrong. t

d.c. fox5's corey coffin is live at the scene tonight. what have you been able to find out in. >>reporter: so we know it happened just before 2:00 in broad day light, but we fowngd out that the actual shooting happened just down the street here and then they were able to drive their vehicle into this parking lot into the complex here right off of pomeroy road. the police had the entrance blocked off as they investigated earlier. residents were not out that things have just opened back up. the act l ul shooting again happened at stanton road between pomeroy and douglas, d.c. \police\police had that part of the roadblocked off as well. we're told three men were driving when someone shot into that car. that's when they were able to drive back to this complex. according to police two of the men went to the hospital with gunshot wounds. the third man has unknown injuries at this point. all are conscious and breathing accord ing to d.c. police. this latest shooting has neighbors on edge and call

d.c.'s attorney general sayses he will not appeal a court ruling striking down parts of the city's gun laws. that means it will soon be easier for district to get concealed carry permits. in july, a federal appeals court ruled that a rgs post office of the city's gun regulations infringed on residents' second amendment rights. the resident acquired d.c. residents to show a good reason to have a gun. the requirement resulted in only about 120 people having a permit to carry a concealed handgun in the district. if we were to lose this case before the supreme court it is true that the district of columbia worried i think for good reason that gun s might flow not only from the south, illegal guns, but also from the northment so that was a fact omplet the attorney general went onto say that the decision not to appeal was based on the possibility of that other good reason laws in four other states could be put in jep disi virginia voters may be the first to make their voices heard on gun control
