(steve) and i'm steve aveson. here is what we know right now a curfew in place in santa rosa--- for the mandatory evacuation zones. it will stay place until sunrise tomorrow here is where we stand tonight. more than 70 thousand acres have burned in at least 12 active fires destroying at least 15-hundred structures...but that number could rise. there have been 10 deaths. seven in sonoma county. two in napa county. and one in mendocino county at this point there are no reported containment numbers on these fires. (pam) now many viewers have asked us to show where the fire is now .. but that is not clear at this hour. fire officials say, right now their priority is saving lives.... not necessarily knocking down the fire itself. (steve) and i'm steve aveson. tonight dan kerman talked with cal-fire about their concerns over the the wet weather but first we check in with meteorologist lawrence karnow about how much rain we're getting lawrence karnow: the first rain of the season is now moving into the bay area. it's a welcomed sight especially with all of the recent fires. winds are a little gusty ahead of the front between 15 to 25 mph. you can see the rain on doppler radar. it will be spreading south throughout the night and everyone should get some rain. we can expect as much as a quarter of an inch of rain in the north bay with more over the mountains. the rain will tapper off further south but everyone should get some much needed drops. a high surf advisory is in effect with waves as high as 18 feet at a winter weather advisory goes up tonight for the sierra with between 3" to 6" expected over 6,500 feet. winds could gust to nearly 65 mph across higher peaks. you can see the cold low droppng out of the gulf of alaska. rain will increas

i'm pam moore.( steve ) and i'm steve aveson. a short time ago we learned the number of homes and buildings destroyed in the fires spiked siginificantly. fire officials say 57-hundred structures have been lost.( pam ) we also learned of two more deaths in the bay area. the napa county sheriff found the bodies of 89- year-old doctor george chaney and 79-year-old edward stone.. they were inside a home on atlas peak road. this brings the number of dead in napa county to four.as we've said.. the latest numbers indicate a total of 35 people have been killed in the fire zone. we are getting an update right now on the fires ... let's go to the sonoma county fairgrounds in santa rosa.
