francine: thank you to both tom's, tom mackenzie and tom orlik. joining us for the rest of the hour is the equity strategist at goldman sachs. sharon, when you look at the china concerns or opportunities, dictate does china dollar strength and weakness and some of the outflows that impact your equity world? >> from a european equities perspective, which is where i focus, what matters is demand generated from china. china is a huge economy and they want to increase that further, becoming the biggest economy in the world by 2050. if you look at the dax index, about 10% of the sales go to china for the dax companies. it's incredibly influential in terms of demand. francine: does it make a difference? chinese stories cracking down on outflows. does it make a difference to valuations, or is it more at the margin? >> they are probably more at the margin. we've seen a lot of bids for equities. german 10 year bund yields are very low. we are seeing a lot of investors look at investments as a way to get growth. you are also seeing u.s. investors move and s

tom: is ge a value here? chris: we don't have a corner on the market of intelligence, but i think it is a value trap. the reason i think so's i think the new guy is going to come in, he is going to assess the situation, he's going to kitchen sink the earnings. i think he will have to cut the dividend. in the last earnings report, they elected not to take a dividend. there are issues that have yet to reveal themselves, i think. nejra: do you see evidence of companies increasing their capex and what does that tell you about where the market goes? chris: we do. again, everything -- everything is an overstatement -- most things are symptomatic of a strong economy, of a bubble that is forming, but not yet fully increasing in see technology, industrials, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. that is exciting as investors and that is a good sign of a tailwind. it creates more jobs, more earnings, and we should push the market higher, even with the high valuations we have. tom: maybe we will get to the tech stocks in t

tom: good morning. tom keene in new york. in one of your books you spend an entire chapter on the game theory of coming to a point. it going to rename el-erian's qt decision. it will affect everybody, including the saudi's and the grand plans they have to deploy capital. where will we be in one or two or three years with quantitative tightening and what that will do to the real rate, which affects capital deployment? tom, that is a critical question. especially if more than one systemically important central bank embarks on tightening. one can do it, we have seen that with the fed. it is an open question if several can do it. the answer is not with the economists, but with the politicians. if you don't get this critical policy handoff to other policymakers, tax reform, the deregulation, if you don't get that, it will be a much more challenging path. tom: as you know, there is a raging debate going on about t e corporate tax reform. we will feature that later on "surveillance." lawrence summers has written three essays going a

tom: well said. for those of us clueless on this, and i was impressed by the protests -- i guess they were pro-spain over the weekend. is there a middle ground? can there be some form of compromise? at spain,u look catalonia has been part of spain for several centuries, but spain is a place where a lot of the regions have a lot of economy and self-government. onomy and self-government. there is already a framework where there is a lot of self-government. there is your avenue of compromise. that is what the market expects. the spanish euro is doing well today. is rationalet what to an outsider, where is the opportunity for the markets? >> we do get that degree of pragmatism playing out, and this has dragged the euro lower, which did make some question of whether the ecb can even consider tapering in an environment such as the yield spreads we see. that next an opportunity for a euro rebound. level does provide some value if we do see any dips. reigns, thatf that will allow the euro to make some gains

. >> i cannot believe i am doing a eulogy for tom petty. ♪ ♪ i knew tom for over 30 years. i never imagined i would outlive him. one week before his death. tom petty was on stage at the hollywood bowl playing the last show of his most successful tour. 2017 began with an all star music industry tribute to petty during grammy week. and continued with a 53 day, 40th anniversary celebration of tom petty and the heartbreakers. petty's final tour was joyful. he would have never known he was in severe pain. tom had fractured his hip, but he kept it a secret. he would not consider canceling the shows, to have surgery. he went out and played hurt. for months. tom petty had a tough upbring. his father did not know what to make of a skinny, son who didn't care about sports. he didn't want his boy to be a sissy. so he tried to beat it out of him. it just made tom more determined. ♪ and i won't back down petty's songs full of defiance. don't do me like that. don't come around here no more. you've don't know how it feels. i don't scare easy. you don't have to live like a refugee. stop

tom, let's start off with you. why are you so bullish this particular vehicle, the grayscale bitcoin investment trust. >> there's a couple of reasons i think primarily, the bitcoin investment trust gives you exposure and most of the upside of owning bitcoin, but in a liquid vehicle as we published in our report, if bitcoin reaches our $25,000 in five years, the gbtc is going to be valued at around 2500. it captures roughly 80% of the move that's assuming the nav goes from 20% to zero, the nav premium. >> andrew, why is tom lee wrong? >> well, first of all, he said if you believe in bitcoin the gbtc will allow you to capture most why not capture all by bitcoin that's liquid as well. as a matter of fact the bitcoin investment trust is not that liquid that's on this particular vehicle. not to mention the fact that they don't have insurance on the bit coins they're custodians of. they are giving a distribution of bitcoin cash. but if you wanted to buy bitcoin, just buy the bitcoin. most importantly, what really bothere
