dana, what do you make of this? >> dana: a couple things. james comey james comey has resurfaced on twitter and he sends a few cryptic tweets now and then. they're usually in response to something that's happening in the news or to the president. i do think, i know the investigations are ongoing but at some point you have to wonder if, to the benefit of the fbi and the american people, if there doesn't need to be some sort of public accounting by him sooner than later. i felt like i kind of knew the part about the removal of the standards, grossly negligent. i thought we sort of knew that. this question about, that was reasonably likely, that's still not proof it happened. so i don't know what strzok is doing. maybe he was pulling one over on james comey or perhaps he was persuasive on the merits or other nefarious reasons, but james comey owns those words. when you sign off on it as the principal, when you speak them, they are yours. peter strzok might've been a bad actor possibly come i don't know but i do think james comey has to own it a

dana. >> dana: and national security strategy is congressionally mandated. a president could wait a couple, three years even before they do something. i think any president that puts out a plan, that's the plan until breaking news changes everything. you never know what's going to pop up in the world. every problem ends up on the president's desk. there's two things i really liked about it. you're going to see a push about this next year and we need to talk about more, military readiness the state of the military, repairs needed for planes and new planes needed also the cybersecurity issues we are dealing with. the president touched on that a little and i think we'll see a push in the near, especially when it comes to funding. the other thing i like hearing them say was as a force for good, miracle we use influence to advance our interests and benefit humanity. i think that keeps us separate from other countries. we are exceptional for a reason and that really is the main reason. >> kimberly: you liked it. definitely seems you thought about american exceptio

dana bash joins us once again. dana, again, i am struck by michael flynn, the role he played during the campaign, the role he played during the transition. remember, when president-elect trump wasn't getting security briefings the same security briefings that other president-elects had in the past the response was it's okay, michael flynn is the one doing it, he's in the room here. he was that important. >> exactly. exactly. look, the last time -- the only time that we have seen a plea is mr. papadopolous, and he was a fringe member of the campaign. i mean, he clearly had access to campaign officials, he was e-mailing campaign officials, but he wasn't somebody who was eating big macs on trump's airplane with him every day. michael flynn was. i can't confirm about the big mac part but they definitely were together a lot. pretty much every day. he was a constant presence with donald trump during the campaign and look, there are a lot of open questions about what the president knew. if they -- if the prosecution has t

>> well, first, dana's right. to portray the election as a final determination of guilt or innocence on donald trump. there are a lot of things going on. there was a exit poll that says how much does donald trump's treatment of women bother you, the options were a lot, some. 70% said a lot or some. now obviously hillary clinton won overwhelmingly among the people who said a lot. i was fascinated that 20%-plus who said some, donald trump won by 25 points. which goes to dana's point, there are other priorities here. that is not an exoneration in any meaningful way. it's like pointing at elections and say, well, people didn't care about fill in the blank issue. maybe not. it's very difficult to draw that kind of conclusion based on the data that we have about the campaign. i tend to think that, well, i should say this, in any traditional political campaign or politician, they would have to say more given to dana's point the changing culture and atmosphere we have. donald trump is not a traditional politician and didn
