don: sure. suzanne, i've been concerned personally with the state of the news media and, frankly, the state of news literacy in the country. for some time. talk a little more, if you would, about what can be done to allow the ordinary american to find their way through the thicket of this miasma of true, false, some made-up. suzanne: i'm glad you asked, because i do think when you look at what are the possible solutions to the problem of fake news, there are some that risk -- where the cure risks being more dangerous than the disease to empower either our government or these social media platforms that already have such overwhelming control over the ideas that reach us, the channels with which we communicate, to ask them or call upon them to censor and constrict and arbitrate what is true and what is false i think is really risky. i do think the answer lies in an informed, empowered news consumer. we laid out a bill of rights and responsibilities for the new consumer, centered on this question o

when you think about it, don jr. is not only at the center of a lot of different issues related to the russia investigation, right, he's the individual who organized the sort of infamous trump tower meeting. you know, sent the e-mail, if it's what you say it is, i love it. he's also the head of his father's business. trump is still not divested from the trump organization. certainly the committee will be look ing into questions about potential financial conflicts of interest and donald trump jr. has also dabbled in some russian-related policy issues. during the campaign he gave a speech for a russian think tank in europe on a syria policy an issue which i don't think don junior is an expert on, for which he was paid up to $50,000 reportedly. there is a huge range of questions and issues that this committee is going to want to get into. not surprising that they would bring him back and not surprising they would take that full nine hours to walk down every possible path here. >> you're not surprised that they brought h

i am don lemon. it is 11:00 p.m. on the east coast. the president's own son and name sake donald trump, jr., refusing today in a marathon all day session to tell the house intel community he and his father discussed after news broke about his june 2016 meeting in trump tower with a russian lawyer who trump, jr., believed had dirt on the hillary clinton campaign invoking attorney-client privilege. adam schiff saying this about trump, jr.'s testimony. >> he answered the overwhelming majority of our questions there was one significant area where he declined to answer. he acknowledged having discussed the june 9 meeting and the e-mails that went into establishing that meeting after those e-mails became public. he acknowledged discussing the matter with his father, but refused to answer questions about the discussion on the basis of a claim of attorney-client privilege. in my view there was no attorney-client privilege that protects a discussion between father and son. this discussion revolves around a pivotal meeting where representatives

so i think the committee is going to be ask if don jr. knew what was happening and also, were there any other policies that the transition team was trying to undercut by not working with the white house during the transition? and i also think that they're going to ask him about his foreign travel. we know that he asked the carter page about his foreign travel more than a month ago. and there's good reason for this. the russians have a history of using relatively neutral european capitals like paris, where don jr. went, to try to contact intelligence targets and to set up secret meetings that can be used for blackmail purposes. so i think they'll want to know, in addition to the trump tower meeting, did don jr. travel anywhere else, have any other meetings that were undisclosed or misreported in some way? >> and as more information comes out from -- publicly from the special counsel or from other investigations, how do these answers and stories, how do they all line up? that becomes, of course, part of the question. michael, i want to get

and bannon at a minimum, don, is energized. he spoke today -- i was at an event today in washington, d.c. where bannon spoke black americans for a better future. it's a black republican, black small business owner event. he gave a speech there and by this evening he's already in alabama giving a different version of a similar speech. he's all in on this idea he's leading this charge now outside the white house against the republican establishment and he's relishing it. the problem, though, in the case of roy moore and alabama, he's doing his campaign against establishment republicans and more broadly against both parties in congress at the expense, as april just pointed out, of supporting someone who's alleged to be a serial dater of teenagers. and that at the same time he's trying to, you know, up end the republican party, he's also dragging the republican party down into the this gutter with him. and, you know, the white house is right. it is up to alabama voters. but if alabama voters fail this basic test of citizenship, it
