that man joins me now, chuck jones, former president of the local 1999. chuck, the president took aim at you specifically a year ago. you've lived through this year, you've seen what happened at carrier and other companies. what's your reaction to what the president promised last night? >> well, i think, like anything else he promised when he was campaigning, and since then, he keeps on promising to keep jobs here in this country. and the number that had left this country due to offshoring right now is over 100,000 since he took office. so he's big on promises, he's short on results. >> so trump's supporters that are in your area, factory workers who believed his claim, what do they say now? are they still waiting? >> i think the majority of them that were trump supporters are saying now for the most part that they feel betrayed and, you know, they're sorry they voted for him. now, there's a few of them still saying, we need to give the guy more time. i wasn't -- i'm not in either group, i didn't support donald trump, and nor do i now. >> i want to play a

is chuck schumer trying to negotiate something with the caucus or with the white house? >> none of us want a shutdown. democrats in particular see the ways in which a shutdown government hurts people. but we are out of patience for short-term patches for unmet promises. and i do know that senator chuck schumer is working hard and diligently. i spoke with, listened to more than a dozen other senators in the gym here this morning, senator schumer was working hard moving back and forth between folks in senior leadership and more junior members. one of the things i was working to do was to help republican colleagues understand how we hear it when mitch mcconnell, the republican leader in the senate takes to the floor last night and says this is all about illegal immigration, something that has no urgency to it and we don't need to fix now. when we saw last week president trump on tuesday choose to convene a bipartisan meeting and welcome legislators to come bring him a daca fix and then on thursday a strong bipartisan group of senators come back and say here it is. we've wor

lawrence jones is a radio host of the lawrence jones show. so who is -- i don't know, lawrence, take it away. who is winning here and who is on top? >> sandra, last week on the couch on "outnumbered" i predicted this. i knew that the president wasn't going to cave. i knew republicans weren't going to cave. i knew the democrats were going to cave on this position because guess what it was a losing issue? they decided to put non-citizens before the american people. what we're seeing now with the president is that he is making it very clear. either i get the wall or we stop talking about daca all together. i don't think the president is going to cave on this and neither should he. >> sandra: chuck schumer for his part emily is saying that senate democrats, quote, cut the best deal possible in ending the shutdown. did they? >> i don't know that we can say it was the best deal but who are they negotiating with? it is impossible to say at this point. i love that trump is saying you get the wall for daca. he got that deal. that was the deal that was

meeting with senator joe manchin of west virginia and the first time the new alabama senator, doug jones about all of this. the democratic leadership complaining the president -- they don't know where the president stands on all of these issues and that he is like negotiating with jello is how chuck schumer put it. he keeps shifting his position. senator tom cotton says that is not true. >> the president's position has not shifted and hidden. the president's position has been clear all along. with senator schumer and durbin me is they don't like his position. >> the white house moving ahead on negotiations on daca trying to get a deal within the deadline and progress is being made. the two sides are giving each other a little bit. the democrats are prepared to give the president more money than the pal try 1.6 billion they offered realizing the president will need to get more money. the white house in turn acknowledging that there are probably more than 690,000 people out there who are eligible for daca. but a lot of people who had not come in from the shadows. i'm told the president is
