matt: thank you for that. traders seemed to like what they did not hear from president trump's state of the union address, no mention of the strong dollar mantra, sending the greenback into retreat. joining us from singapore is mark cudmore, bloomberg mliv strategist. let me ask your take on trump's state of the union address. it was not quite as devices as you might have expected from this president. is that a load off of traders' shoulders today? mark: absolutely. the big takeaway from markets is that it provided some relief that he did not roil markets. this president is known for causing drama. it is very rare that he passes by without letting a moment for the media to height up what he said. today the novelty was that there was no novelty. the issues,ided whether it was infrastructure. for the threat on trade, which might have been a negative. he did not say anything too worrying, and that will lift the gloom there from yesterday's price action. matt: we do see further dollar weakness today. against a num

guy and matt. matt: thanks very much. bill may have changed the tone for the dollar, the bloomberg dollar index rebounded after hitting a three-year low yesterday. is tax repatriation the things that buoyed the dollar bounceback? back $200 billion in cash necessitates transferring your currency into dollars. is that one of the reasons for the rebound? it seemed toly change the sent to meant -- sentiment. apple has a lot of stores on sure. it does not hold just treasuries. it holds a lot of corporate securities. both treasury yields picked up and the dollar rallied. i do not know if there is a necessity for the dollar to react apart from the sentiment shift. belief that a lot of these assets are in u.s. dollars. it may not result in a conversion into the actual u.s. dollar. it has changed the sentiment on -- and helped people have sympathy for the dollar. bottomedr might have out yesterday. and ihe treasury market, am not just talking about apple, i am talking about a bunch of companies to you they are holding these offsho

matt? matt: i feel like this is a fascinating headline. everyone was saying that this was a possibility and the case but to have leahy openly admit this -- we are talking about products that are billions of dollars -- billions of dollars of products have already been sold and if they are going to close down this line, what does that mean for those holding these planes? will they continue to maintain them? will they continue to make parts for them? are they going to stop making comfortable planes? guy: very few people are ordering it. they don't think it is very economical. they would rather fly the triple heavies like the 777. the 380 was built for a model that in many ways does not work. you look at the number of big heavies coming into heathrow. you have to go to west london to appreciate how many three 80's fly in there. people increasingly want to fly point to point. airbus made a big bet on it. boeing went to a different route. it went with the dreamliner and the more fuel-efficient aircraft. some airportsys, it works for an some airp

matt: thanks very much. the dollar halted its decline this morning, but bloomberg's index has made the greenback the worst performing currency in the last year. is this dollar weakness distorting our view of the markets? cudmore, bloomberg mliv strategist joining us from singapore. -- the reason you say the dollar weakness is distorting our view of the market is mainly because commodities are all priced in dollars, so the gains we think we see in oil and -- the reason you sayothers r'g as you are holding them in other currencies. mark: absolutely, that is the largest part of it but not the only thing. certainly in commodities prices, in oils a real rally markets. that is valid. the bloomberg commodity index is unchanged in many security metrics. it is not running away in dollar terms. when you look at agricultural prices, which are collapsing in dollar terms and local currency terms, are slumping. the multi-year lows across many currencies and this is negative for inflation. also in currency markets, we have

matt:. juliette, thank you for that carried the selloff in treasuries has pushed 10 year yields to their highest level in nearly four years, but rising yields are undercutting the stocks rally, sending the ss -- s&p 500 futures and major indexes down. joining us from singapore, mark mliv strategist. give me an explanation of why rising yields would hurt stocks. i would think if people are selling on's, they would have extra money to buy equities and if they sell equities, it would mean they are investing in bonds. it looks like neither is happening. but inot at the moment, don't think the higher yield is the main driver of equity weakness at the moment. we have had a massive amount of risk events in the calendar. the state of the union, the jobs report and there has been a run in equities. it makes sense to take money off the table. the month-end rebalancing flows are meant to see a shift into bonds and away from equities. going to your question of why would higher yields crimp equities, it
