seems to be something the nra supports as well. >> the nra believes there is an opportunity for schools to defend themselves better. they liken it to businesses like jewelry stores that have armed guards. the president supporting the notion of the cost effectiveness of teachers doing it over armed security guards so that's an interesting assessment and the president saying he would support federal money for trainitrain i ing. certainly the nra says it provides some of its resources to help schools in that area but there are many who are concerned about bringing additional weapons into a school environment, that there are other types of dangers that could come from that or would teachers want to be in this position so he sort of geared it to towaeachers that might have military background, not asking every teacher to be armed. he is continuing to push that idea today. >> there is a lot to discuss on that. i was speaking with some parents from sandy hook yesterday who said they would be incredibly concerned about that idea, the concern being that there would be some type of a shootout or

will the nra back that? >> the nra doesn't back any ban. they've asked the atf to do their job and make sure the classifications are consistent. >> what about the call from the president to arm teachers in schools? >> i think that if a school, the if parents and teachers voluntarily choose to be armed thark that is something that schools have to come up with themselves. the nra has the school shield program. it's assisted 150 schools across the country in coming up with solutions for this. making sure students and teachers are protected. as wayne lapierre has said, as i have said before, the nra has resources at schools' and parents' and teachers' disposals. >> you have seen teachers say, that's not a job we want. >> if teachers voluntarily choose to and the parents would like it. my kids go to a school where teachers chose to get trained and carry fire arms for their protection and the protection of the students. and this is something that, as parents of this school, and educators in this community, everyone came together and determined th

nra supported it, nra got the votes and nra got it passed. we demanded an honest system that was supposed to make sure good people can purchase firearms as quickly as possible, a system that catches violent felons, the ad jaud indicated mentally incompetent and dangerous and every other prohibited person right at the point of sale. where they would be prosecuted for a federal felony. but they aren't. what is happened instead is one of the greatest failures in the history of american leadership. in 2010, roughly 80,000 prohibited people committed a felony by trying to buy a gun. just 44 were prosecuted for it. does that sound like a good number to anybody? so when you hear politicians who won't fix the broken system talk about expanding it, don't buy it. demand what works. put armed security in every school. fix the broken mental health system. enforce the federal gun laws against every criminal thug on the street. prosecute dangerous people had they show up to buy a gun and for god sake, put every prohibited person into the system. that's wha

because there are multiple nras and the nra leadership doesn't have a strangle hold on anyone. what gives the nra the power it does is what any group aspires to in this democracy, get your people motivated, activated and involved in politics and out to the polls on the first tuesday after the first monday in november. if the nra has done a better job of that, than other groups, i don't think they can be blamed for doing what he should do. other groups talk tough but they don't deliver. and politicians respond to the reality. and the gun owners of this country care very deeply about their gun ownership and their rights. and frankly, it's the gun owners of this country didn't pull the trigger. they didn't misuse their guns and they get pretty upset when they get blamed for something they had nothing to do with. we're all americans and we're all united in keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous mentally disturbed individuals, unsupervised juveniles and violent predatory criminals. so why don't we stop the politics and recognize that we really are far more united in this country

>> well, it is intense enough, ryan, for major companies to say no to nra. american airlines took to twitter early in the morning announcing that they plan to part ways with the national rifle association. let me read you the tweet they posted this morning when they made that announcement. united saying that quote, united is notifying the nra that we will no longer offer a discounted rate to the annual meeting, and we are are asking the nra to remove our information from the website. and if you logged on to delta website, you saw a similar message posted as well. that atlanta-based company making their decision known as well. and so they are also severing ties as you read the lower portion of the tweet asking them to remove delta's information from the website as well. when you are look at the list again, you can see that there are so many recognized brands, and recognized companies as well that decided to go in that direction, particularly after this mounting heat that was that we watch and watched play out on social media. several of the companies are taki

certain firearms, which is not where the nra stands. >> yeah, that's right. the nra has roundly rejected the idea of raising the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21, something the president tweeted about just today. it's interesting to see what's going to happen between the president and the nra. he was touting his relationship with the nra, saying he has spoken to them often over the past few days. he spoke to the executive director chris cox over the weekend, saying they have a good relationship and he doesn't expect to clash with them over these proposed gun control measures here, brooke. the fact is that the president wants to raise the minimum age to 21 and the nra doesn't. that's an obvious conflict there between those two stances. the other big thing that the president has been pushing for is giving teachers concealed weapons, arming teachers who need to be adept at handling weapons like these firearms, giving them weapons in schools and he touted the idea of giving them a bonus, if you're an armed teacher you would get a 20% bonus or 20% of teache
