supervisor sheehy. >> supervisor sheehy: submit. supervisor stefani? >> supervisor stefani: thank you, madame clerk. colleagues, it's no secret that public safety is one of my number one concerns. today, i am introducing legislation to make it clear that when you are in san francisco, you are free to exercise your first amendment rights without intimidation or fear from those carrying concealed firearms. last august, a proposed demonstration in my district, by a far right wing group, wreaked havoc through this entire city. coming off the heels of violence in charlottesville, there were concerns about concealed handguns at this rally due to a 2010 federal firearm law that allows guns in our national parks. many officials went on record at that time expressing their concern about the potential for violence. the united states gun homicide rate is 25 times higher than other developed nations. over 90 americans are shot dead in this country every day and hundreds more are injured. let me be very clear. it does not feel like a free country when our children

and last but not least, we will hear from supervisor sheehy. >> supervisor sheehy: so colleagues, it's my great honor to recognize ginetta johnson, someone whose advocacy and determination is awe-inspiring. she's the director of the transgender, gender variant and intersex project here in the city. they offer support to transgender variant and intersex people who are incarcerated or working on reentry. many of whom are disproportionately people of color. you know, i read this story about her that i thought was just super cool. as a referral liaison to the tgi justice project, she wrote a letter to a federal judge because the correction officers were consistently and constantly misgendering folks. and it was such a powerful effort that the judge send federal marshals in to excel co the corrections officers to use proper gender identification. ginetta and tgi -- the tgi justice project had been instrumental in advocating and organizing for more protections against the violence that transand gender nonconforming communities of color face on a daily basis. one of the interesting things, to

i couldn't agree more with my colleague, jeff sheehy. and this is something that you and i have been arguing about for quite some time, jeff. i'm actually looking into legislating around this point because i don't think it is an either or proposition. i think we have to start being honest about what we need to solve our street homelessness crisis in this city. if we just keep sort of working around the edges and adding a couple of beds here and there and having individual supervisors fight to get a navigation center in her district and solve the problem in her neighborhood only, we are going to continue to have san francis franciscoians get fed up. before mayor lee passed away, he made a pledge to add a thousand new beds to the system. is that what is in your budget >> we need to see that kind of investment from the mayor's office. i see jim in the crowd. i have talked to the chamber of commissioners and the golden gate restoration. they want to help but they want to see a dpifrns in the street. if -- difference in the street. if we are
