when that happens, we will bring it to you live. >>> allie rasmus is live at 22nd and capp where police shot and killed a man in a trunk of a car. allie. >> reporter: yes. you can see that vehicle behind us here. this is 22nd and capp. the negotiates is closed and has been since this happened around 10:30 last night. the black honda civic that you see with the car door open is where this happened. and police say that they were trying to detain a robbery suspect who was hiding in the trunk of that car. let's show you the video that we have. kind of an overhead view of this intersection and the scene here. that's when the officer- involved shooting happened when they were trying to arrest a person hiding in the trunk of the civic. we don't know how many shots were fired from the suspect or police. in the overhead advise you can see dozens of evidence markers scattered across the street and the sidewalk. this happened around 10:30 last night. two people in the neighborhood flagged down a patrol car as it was going by to report they were victims of an armed robbery. a short time later polic

allie rasmus will wrap this up for us. allie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yes, civic center station was one of the two stations that were shut down for a period. it reopened just after 8:00 after being shut down for 20 minutes. according to bart spokespersons, it was shut down because of a mylar balloon that came into contact with the third rail. according to witnesses who were on the platform and saw this, it caused sparking and a little bit of smoke. those witnesses -- one of the witnesses says he didn't see the balloon but definitely heard a loud popping sound followed by sparks and smoke. >> sparks came out of it. to me it was like flames were shooting out of it. it got bright. it started smoking. like red, orange smoke. and so that's when -- like i started like going for the stairs. >> reporter: and firefighters and bart technicians checked out the tracks. and civic center station was reopened before 8:00. at 6:00 this morning at the 24th and mission street station, that was closed for an hour because of smoldering on the tracks. san francisco fire con

ktvu's allie rasmus is joining us live from san francisco. allie, these are the third and fourth people to die after the heavy snowfall we saw over the weekend in the sierra. >> reporter: yes. the alpine sheriff's office says that 50-year-old olga and her 7-year-old son aaron goldstein were just steps away from the condo where they were staying on sunday at kirkwood when a trailer size chunk of falling snow fell off the roof and buried them. these are pictures from the sheriff's department. they are showing the heavy snowfall that blanketed the sierra over the weekend. the under sheriff said this was a freak accident that killed the two. and in his 30 years working with the department, he can't recall sliding snow off a rooftop ever killing anyone before. but this video posted on kirkwood's website showing the heavy snowfall over the weekend before this tragic incident happened, the resort reported getting more than six feet of snow in the span of a week. were skiing at kirkwood with her mother and two other children. they were reported missi

ktvu's allie rasmus live in san mateo to explain the concerns. allie? >> yes, well the threats apparently didn't name any specific schools. >> reporter: though that should be a relief to parents but they were apparently made by a man who walked into a big five sporting goods store on south el camino real in san mateo last week and apparently started shouting to get a gun to quote shoot up some cools. given -- schools. given the environment it was obviously concerning and police want to talk to the man and ask him about those threats. they circulated this photo from the surveillance video they are still trying to locate the man and speak to him about it. the man is described as being about 35 years old, witnesses in the store at the time say he appeared to be transient and we don't know anything about the condition of his mental health but the people working in the store at the time asked the man to leave. and he did. but just as a precaution san mateo police say they will have an increased presence at all schools in the san mateo foster city school dist

. >> that warning has now expired and ktvu's allie rasmus shows us several roads had to be closed. >> there's a break in the clouds and a little bit of sunshine. and earlier this morning, heavy rainfall through the area led to a flash flood advisory and standing water on a lot of the roadways. this is stony point road. and it was closed over to rancho verde because of the standing water. and other creeks and tributaries overflowed their banks. there was one vehicle that they had to help assist to get out of the flooded roadway. we saw drivers trying to get the car out of the way without any success. we've seen drivers defy the road closure earlier this morning and drive right through the standing water. granted earlier this morning when there was more flooding in the roadway, the only vehicles we saw do that were trucks with a higher profile. but it's not a good idea and not recommended. it only takes a couple of inches of water to move a vehicle. in sonoma county there was a sig-alert issue for the road completely closed due to flooding. not uncommon for this intersection to flood li

ktvu allie rasmus is in marin county right now. what's it like. >> reporter: well, moderate rainfall coming downright now and also the wind is definitely picking up. we will step out of the way so you can see northbound 101 at lucky drive. this area typically has problems with roadways flooding when there's a little bit of rain. and as there has been through the overnight hours. there's no exception today. they have a couple inches of rain -- of water pulling up on the highway. you don't see cars driving through it now but a few minutes ago we saw quite a splash. not the rain but the wind. if we look at some of the lights over the highway here, you can see the rain is kind of going a little bit sideways with some of the wind pushing it off to the side there. but, this is the heavy rainfall that's expected for most of the morning. it's going to impact the commute. and again, because of the wind i am holding my hat down so it doesn't blow away. there have been wind advisory for the golden gate bridge and dunn barton. so take it easy

allie rasmus joins us. she's been by the lake for the last hour. what's the latest, allie? >> the san francisco fire department dive team arrived year about half an hour ago. one of their members is underwater conducting and helping with this search. you can see he is about maybe 10-20 feet away from the shoreline underwater elected to that cable that the other firefighter with the headphones and suspenders is in control of over here. but the oakland fire department asking for the san francisco department -- fire department help with this. and to make sure there isn't a woman's body underwater here at lake merritt. this all started around 4:30 this morning. that's when someone called 911 report two people in lake merritt what the caller described as a man and woman arguing, fighting in the lake. when police arrived, they saw one person in the lake who was sort of thrashing about in the water. the threshing came to a slower rate and then the police were able to pull that person out of the water and ended up being a man that he pulled from the water. the man was unresponsive.

allie rasmus is in walnut creek. tell us what tesla is saying and why the company is speaking out now. >> reporter: well, questions about this crash and tesla's response to it come at a critical time for the company. they have had manufacturing problems over the last several months and their stock price has been down recently. but the national transportation safety board is investigating the crash, the deadly crash that happened on highway 101 and 85 on friday. let's show you some of the video that we have from that scene. the cell phone video from a passerby who tried to help the driver. and the driver subsequently died at the hospital after the crash. the video shows the intensity of the crash and the fire that followed shortly afterwards. was the automated driving technology on when the car crashed? in a blog post entitled what we know about last week's accident, tesla offered condolences to the driver and his family but says that a concrete barrier may be a reason for the crash. or a lack of the concrete barrier.

allie rasmus has been at the lake all morning with new information. >> reporter: we just got an update from police, they have their homicide investigators working the case. they are trying to figure out what happened and how a man and woman ended up in an altercation in the water of lake merritt. police got the call for multiple witnesses this morning in the area, reporting seeing and hearing a man and a woman in the waters of lake merritt fighting. when police arrived they saw the man thrashing around in the water. four officers jumped into pulled him out. they perform cpr and he was transported to the hospital. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. rescue crews could not find the woman immediately, firefighters called in from help for san francisco dive team, around 6:31 of the divers found the woman's body near hanover street. we spoke to a neighbor who says she heard and saw the man and woman is shouting in the lake early this morning. >> initially i thought they were in a fight. it was continuous. it was a multiple times where she was screaming, i could here for -- i could hear

ktvu's allie matt smith -- allie rasmus is talking about those concerns. >> a man walked into a big five sporting good store and apparently started shouting that he wanted to buy a gun so that he could, quote, shoot up some schools. police started circulating this still photo from the surveillance video of that big five. they are still looking to contact this man and ask him about the threat he was shouting. the man is described as about 35 years old. he appeared to be a transient. we don't know anything about the condition of his mental health. they asked the man to leave and he did. they say that they will have an increased presence. all schools in the area and we are hoping to speak with someone at the school district. parents who are dropping off their kids should be advised that if you see some extra police in the area, again, they've stepped up patrols that they are doing in response to the threat made by this man over the weekend. it's something parents should just be aware of. pam and dave, back to you. >> thank you, allie. we will check in with you throughout the morning. >>> sa

ktvu allie rasmus you have more on that. what do you know? >> reporter: well, those lanes have reopen. but as sal mentioned it's slow going on southbound 880 because of the earlier collision. looking at where we are now, this part of 880 at marina boulevard in the southbound direction traffic looks pretty good here. but about an hour ago, traffic was inching along because of the collision that happened at the davis street exit. according to one of the people involved in the crash, the driver of an suv hit the center divide, spun out and then slammed into the white sedan. both drivers were able to get out of the vehicle. shortly after the engines of the -- engine of the suv start stod smolder and it was a foyer and both cars because they were connected were engulfed in flames. the two drivers got out safely and standing on the side of the freeway in the rain with trafficgoing pass them -- past them when another driver pulled over and helped. >> the drivers were pretty disappointing. going all around us and right -- he was sitting down and this

ktvu allie rasmus is outside rooftop elementary. what do you know about this? >> reporter: well, rooftop elementary is a pre-k through 8th grade elementary school in the twin peeks neighborhood. according to a spokesperson, this threat was made by what's described as a member of the school community. not a stranger. unclear whether it was a parent. but it happened and the threat was made to the school. the school's principal and secretary on february 27th. that was last tuesday. on that day, the school put in lock down in response. person who made the threat was arrested later that same day. and the school district spokesperson says san francisco police and the districts didn't think there was credible to the threat. however, parents and teachers at the school are concerned for their safety and student's safety because school staff members say the person who made the threats was released on bail yesterday and they are concerned about what that person might do today and in the days ahead. so san francisco police do confirm to ktvu they are going to have officers
