this is laura ingraham on fox news. and it was a very sophisticated approach for a 17-year-old who decided he would go after her advertisers and not directly towards her. and he says in an interview that i did with him and another interview that he has done just a short time ago with andrea mitchell that he has a real problem with what laura ingraham has done to him and has done to some basketball players where she took them on last month. this is what he had to say. >> she only apologized after a third of her advertisers dropped out. shooed gone after lebron james, dwyane wade and multiple other people. she's a bully and needs to be held accountable. i don't care who you are or what title you have. >> so, craig, what david hogg says this really is an example of is the sort of power that 17-year-old, 18-year-old kids now have in this country through the internet. it's at their fingertips on twitter. last night he had 645,000 followers. now he's up to 690,000 as he takes on laura ingraham. and those are call influencers.

i want to go back to the laura ingraham situation. this is a pattern that many right-wing hosts have undertaken. they'll go out, say something to the extreme that generates excitement and enthusiasm among the right-wing base in their viewers and then they apologize and they basically get to go back on air and move forward as if nothing happened. the thing that we're finally seeing now is that advertisers are coming forward and saying, you know what? we don't care if this impacts our bottom line. we're pulling our ads from this program because we absolutely cannot stand with the host who will say this sort of extreme things. that's where you'll see the trajectory of this pattern change. >> i would disagree with adrienne. we're good friends but there is this bully pulpit that david hogg was unleashing, saying advertisers better pull out. there was more and more pressure that if you somehow advertised on fox news or laura ingraham's show then you somehow would be supporting people who wanted -- >> evan hang on a second. hitting anybody c

is laura ingraham's show in trouble? what's next? >> certainly, given the success they've had in a short period of time, i'm certainly expecting them to continue the boycotting effort. one of the things i would say is so interesting is that these are young people. if we believe they're not being advised by more knowledgeable people, these are young people who understand media, seem to understand it just as well as people like laura ingraham, who worked in media for their entire careers. i mean, one of the things that was astonishing to me about this situation is hogg's presence of mind to respond so quickly with a boycott, with a call for a boycott that spread virally and that was so successful so quickly. he knew where to hit laura ingraham where it hurt, in her advertisers. these kids have shown a savviness about dealing with the media in their many appearances on television and other platforms that shows they've grown up with this media, know how to use it, and they're now turning it to advocate for the political change they feel
