. >> pete suratos has a look at that dramatic video. what about the injuries of the other people hurt? >> reporter: good morning, marcus. four adults were injured outside of the officer. one of them is in critical condition. this was moments after that officer was shot. now that video was posted to show him crawling to safety after being shot in the leg to a barbershop in the outer mission area. was involved in a shoot-out at 4:45 as police were responding to the call of a man with a gun in the area. they tracked the suspect to the barbershop in the area. when police officers confronted him he started shooting them. >> i live on the corner right there. that's the pharmacy i go to. i wanted to see what happened. >> two people on the floor and a police officer wounded. >> reporter: five other people were also injured in the shoot-out including a minor and four adults. as i mentioned at the top one of the adults is in critical condition. as we get updates, we'll bring that to you. live in san francisco, pete suratos, "today in the bay." >>

live near lucky drive, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> pete is in the north bay, now i want to move south. let's check in with "today in the bay's" kris sanchez live up in the santa cruz mountains. >> you know that storm good news for our reservoirs, right? >> reporter: we definitely need some water in our reservoirs but i will say that vianey and mike both emps referenced the fog factor and your windshield. we definitely felt that, it was hard to keep it clear because it is so muggy outside. now the winds are picking up. we're getting blown around pretty good but it's the rain we want. that's what we need for our south bay reservoirs at this point. at this point last year the santa clara valley water district was releasing water from some of our south bay reservoirs, that is not happening this year. as of february we were up 50% of the 20 year average. we asked the santa clara water district if that is a bleak picture and at that point the water district said it wasn't totally a bad thing because a lot of the early winter rain served to saturate the dry ground. the problem is

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in yountville with that part of the story. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning, marcus. as you mentioned right there you've got the mayor of yountville as well as a spokesperson for the pathway home speaking about that deadly shooting that took place on friday. that shooting happened on friday but you still see this memorial set up werg remembering those three victims who passed away in that deadly shooting. in this interview that they did with the "today" show they talked about the purpose of the pathway home, how it's there to assist troops with mental health issues, specifically those coming back from iraq and afghanistan. now, i want to point out that program is privately funded but they do have a partnership in place with san francisco's va medical center. and the mayor says unlike other veteran program we hear about, this is very deeply tied into the local community. they are highly involved. you have organizations taking out some of the veterans to events or to outings such as bowling or fishing, but those thr

live in san leandro, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. it's 5:07. there are new allegations against a san jose all girls catholic school under scrutiny for months. the claim is that the principal failed to report sexual misconduct this time involving a performing arts teacher at presentation high school. now, the news comes as presentation announced success in an annual fundraiser so fundraising is still happening at the school, quite successful despite all the allegations coming out. $126,000 twice as much as last year. in a statement released critics of the school say administrators ignored sexual abuse allegations. that teacher was later convicted of child molestation and pornography charges. now, we reached out for comment for presentation high so far has not responded. the investigative unit first broke the story about sex abuse allegations dating back decades involving numerous schools and teachers. the alumni director called the previous claims misleading and said it was nice to see they did not make a dent in the school's reputation. >>> jus

pete suratos is live outside the school with the counter protests also expected here today. pete, it could be a rough day for administrators there. >> reporter: yeah, it could be a rough day indeed, kris. we're standing in front of rancho romero elementary school. westboro baptist church a controversial hate group is expected to protest in front of the school in a matter of hours citing their difference was a gender equality lesson plan that the school is promoting. that's information we're getting according to a facebook post. let's talk about this controversial history with this group. now, back in 1998 they protest matthew shepherd who was a day man who was beaten and tortured to death in wyoming and then in 2006 the group protested at the funeral of matthew snyder, a u.s. marine who was killed in iraq and they were sued for that, but the supreme court sided with the church's right to protest. they held protests in orlando following the pulse nightclub shooting. i did get a chance yesterday to reach out personally to the san ramon unified school district. in a statement t

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live with how things are looking this morning. pete, you're always out in elements keeping us aware of what's going on. what's going out there with you now? >> reporter: good morning, marcus. well, the conditions are very wet right now as the rain is coming down near lucky drive near that quarter madera area. chp putting out a warning about flooding near lucky drive. look at that, you see the standing water as folks are driving through this rain, getting to wherever they've got to go to, whether it's work or wherever it may be. you're seeing they are going to have to go through that water right there where there is flooding in this area. as i was driving across the richmond-san rafael bridge this bridge i saw that warning sign saying there would be flooding in this area along lucky drive. as you see that car driving through you're seeing this could be an issue. in fact, chp is keeping an eye on this. they tweeted out telling folks to be careful when they are on the roadways this morning because of all the rain that's coming down,

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live at the scene and, pete, what have you been able to find out this morning? >> reporter: good morning. i want to point out where this all happened, this construction site behind me, it is called the landing. that's what i found out on the walnut creek website, apparently was set to open in spring of this year. as you mentioned this is very rare to see a crime like this in walnut creek. prior to this they have only had two homicides since 2016. we will show you guys the scene video from not too long after this all took place. what we do see is that a car is being towed out of this construction site, it's unclear how that is expected to the homicide, but according to walnut creek police they're saying this investigation started just before 7:30 p.m. and at that site -- at the site behind me they found a 60-year-old victim with life-threatening injuries who was pronounced dead on the scene. also on the scene they found a 34-year-old male suspect who has been detained. the motive behind this homicide is unclear. we do know according to walnut creek

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in san francisco with what this project is about and, pete, how could this impact commuters? >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. it could impact some of the more than, i believe, 170,000 folks that use ac transit, specifically in the east bay, because the board of directors is proposing a potential change that we could see as early as august of this year, but riders will get two chances today, there will be a meeting here in san francisco and another one in oakland later today, we will get to that in a moment. eventually ac transit is going to move into that big transbay transit center. you guys are looking at some of the double-decker buses that will be launching service out of that area to accommodate more passengers. now, as for today's meetings, it's going to focus on proposed line changes with ac transit, mostly affecting those using the ac transit in the east bay. i want to show you guys a few of the lines that would be affected or at least they are under consideration for changes. you've got line f in berkeley, line l and la in th

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live at the embarcadero bart station with how it's going to impact bart riders. pete, this could last for years. >> reporter: that's right, kris. it can last as long as three and a half years, imagine that. so for bart riders they are already getting up fairly early in that 4:00 a.m. hour, it could be a longer commute for them as they're trying to get into the city of san francisco, but let's show you that area that's going to be affected. we are talking about folks coming from the east bay and getting into san francisco between that 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. block when they're going through the transbay tubes. that's at that west oakland area stop to embarcadero. so the purpose of pushing this all back as far as the start time goes for these trains is to give contractors extra time to work on the transbay tube retro fit which they are hoping to complete by 2022. as far as who is going to be affected specifically, we are talking about bart riders that are traveling through the transbay tube between that 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. block. we are talking about

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in milpitas with how local school districts are preparing for this. pete, a lot of kids taking part of in this demonstration. >> reporter: that's right, marcus. i know you guys mentioned earlier in the newscast more than 100 walkouts taking place across the bay area so we will see a lot of activity when it comes to this later this morning, but here in milpitas at the milpitas unified school district there was a bit of back and forth as far as whether these students who take part in this walkout would be disciplined. the superintendent cheryl jordan sent out a couple letters in the past few days, in fact, on monday she said that for students that would participate in this walkout they support what the students are saying, but she did not condone the walk out saying in that letter, quote, leaving campus during school hours to participate in police cal activity is not a safe and responsible way to work for change. in fact, at that time she said any student choosing to participate in the walkout would get an unexcused absence. but yesterday the supe

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live off of ygnacio valley road near the bart station with what we know. pete, pretty rare for this to happen in walnut creek. really? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, marcus. very rare for this to happen. you just mentioned this is the first homicide of the year for walnut creek, but they've only had two homicides dating back to 2016. i want to show you the video when this took place on lacassie avenue in walnut creek on the 1800 block. there was a car being towed away when our crews showed up, unsure how that's connected to the homicide, but according to walnut creek police they're saying that investigation started just before 7:30 p.m. initially they got a call about a possible assault at a construction site north of here but determined that location was incorrect and the incident took place on lacassie avenue. they found a 60-year-old victim with life-threatening injuries who was pronounced dead on the scene. they also found a 34-year-old male suspect who was immediately detained and that male suspect was on the scene as well. as far as the mo

today in the bay pete suratos is live there and what can we expect today for this remembrance of life? >>reporter: good morning, to you, markus. it will be a celebration of the life of these three victims who were killed here at the veterans home. it's going to take place, that memorial's going it take place lind me here at the lincoln theater in yountville. you can expect it to be a very emotional care moan as that takes place. those three victims that we are talking about are clinical director jennifer gray golick, kristine lobar, and jennifer gonzales who was a clinical psychologist at the pathway home when all this took place. all thee of them were killed on march 9th when a veteran and former participant in the pathway homes mental health program entered that building and took them host able. he kill those women before turning the gun on him receive. as for details on tonight's memorial service, it's being called a celebration of life. this was being dubbed by the organizers that's going to take place behind me at the napa valley performing arts center at the lincoln theater here

our pete suratos is there, he will have a live report at the top of the hour. >>> and this morning a controversy is brewing at an oakland coffee shop. the store is reportedly refusing to serve police officers. sergio quintana looks at why officers are being turned away. >> reporter: the shop is called hasta muerte coffee, it's an employee owned co-op, the workers inside did not respond to our request to ask about their policy about not serving police, but if you surf through the shop's instagram account under a picture that reads. [ speaking spanish ] which means talk to your neighbors not the police. it states, we have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves. the oakland police officers association has sent the shop a letter asking to open a dialogue about their policy. i was able to talk to the police officer who was turned away by that coffee shop. he can't talk on camera because he's currently on duty, but he says he was surprised. he did walk away without incident and without any coffee and he says he's looking forw
