>> reporter: hi there, mike, the rain has let up as rob mayeda mentioned. we are still seeing very messy conditions. this is some of your traffic cameras. a couple of chp cruisers going side to side leading people. making sure they are going the appropriate speed for these conditions. they are not good. it was really pouring just about a half hour ago. it's led up a little bit. the winds are still a factor and the fog is still looming in this area. now this is just one of the concerns that a lot of folks have as the rains move in. if you drive this area for fun on weekends when you go to santa cruz or whether you live and work or commute between the santa cruz mountains and the south bay you foe there is a possibility of a mudslide or landslide. we got walloped last year. you remember highway 17 itself was shut down for two weeks when a mudslide came down. sadly a construction worker was killed in those repairs. a lot of folks still remember that. and if you drive in the daytime you would have noticed the rock nets that have gone up along some of the sides

i want to bring in meteorologist rob mayeda to explain this. we really need the rain. >> some places carrying a deficit of a foot of rain. february we had very little rain around the bay area and the totals are interesting when you see them stacking up like this. february last month, the wetter months around the bay area. you're catching up some this morning. now that said our storm ranger mobile doppler radar showing you another batch at the coast. that's where pete suratos joins us live in marin county as the next round moves in. pete? >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, rob. we were saying it was on and off throughout the morning. it's definitely on right now. you can see the rain coming down behind me here on lucky drive and as you have to know when you're driving on the roads you have to be very careful because of these conditions. i'll show you the video when we were driving in this morning. 101 north you see the rain coming down putting the windshield wipers to work and that's when a lot of people will have to do when they're driving

meteorologist rob mayeda with where that storm is heading right now. rob? >> we're about to see heavier rain move in. you have temperatures pretty mild. wind speeds at 23. san bruno mountain and one of the reasons in position this morning is it can look to the west to see where the next bands are coming in. reaching the east bay and concord 6:27. you can see the higher definition view, faster scanning, more detail as it moves into the bay area. the peninsula, heavier showers around your commute. a letup in the rain but not as much. south of san jose into the mountains is where the downpours continue. rain rates a quarter of an inch to a third per hour. hour by hour today, heavier rain for the morning and right around lunch time we'll transition over to scattered showers and a cool and blustery day. highs low to mid-50s. a chance of thundershowers. more on that in about ten minutes. your morning drive. >> i tried desperate will to get the lens more clearly visible. you can see the droplets still on the lens. this is over here and they glow. the light refacti

meteorologist rob mayeda says there is a slight chance of rain. we will have some warmer temperatures, though, this weekend. he'll be along in just a bit with your microclimate forecast. >>> a smash and grab shut down part of the evening commute. san francisco police are investigating a robbery in which thieves attacked an uber driver's car and then robbed the passenger. the crime shut down part of 280 at 101. "today in the bay" explains. >> reporter: this is the uber driver's car still on what would usually be a very busy i-280. the owner says a white car and another vehicle forced her to stop. then men got out and smashed her windows. >> there was a gun on my head. i didn't want to look. he said just give me your keys and open the trunk. >> reporter: she didn't want us to show her face or use her name. she tells me the robbers took her phone and they also made off with some of her passenger's property. do you think they were after you or do you think they were after the passenger? >> i think after the passenger. >> reporter: tell me why. >> beca

meteorologist rob mayeda has the forecast for the workweek. >> clear skies will set the stage for a chilly night tonight. you can see san francisco currently seeing temperatures in the mid-50s and similar as they said south towards san jose. 52 with these clearing skies and temperatures will be cooling quickly, could see patchy frost in the inland valleys especially around the north bay and east bay combined with runoff in the hill tops, look out for icy roadways around some spots around highway 17 or the areas around mt. hamilton and maybe in the north bay. some of that may add to ice on the roadways. nothing showing up on the storm ranger doppler radar but we have two more opportunities for finding rain and snow in our 7-day forecast. the timing of when the rain will make a comeback coming up. >> thanks, rob. >> water officials hoping the snow pack survey has better results after all of that snowfall. tomorrow will be the third of five surveys this season of the last survey about a month ago showed the snow pack at just 14% of his torical average which is actually an improvement over the
