>> reporter: well, tam, earlier about an hour ago we had much bigger flakes. now they've lessened a little bit and they're a lot smaller but we've been talking about this wet heavy snow and how kids are staying home from school. so, one way to keep them busy, have them shovel the snow. i didn't tell that you, though and don't tell them i said that but take a look right now. so far it hasn't really accumulated on the roadways. on the grass it certainly has. the less traveled areas. it will be slushy but again on the roads we haven't seen that stick yet but as karen mentioned at peak today it will be falling at one to 2 inches per hour, that snow. right now we're along bethlehem pike and hatfield. as we came up 76, 276 and route 309 it was mostly the same, just wet roads but we saw numerous salt and plow trucks at the ready and positioned along the ramps and shoulders, front end loaders could be seen at large parking lots for the work that's coming ahead and throughout the day. one thing i would suggest is if you have to shovel the snow or if anybody in your hou

it has already been flying towards mount tam. i think there is snow on tam. maybe hail reports around kentsville and larksberg and berkeley hills. general rain moving out towards eastern solano and contra costa county. look at the san jose foothills. mount hamilton, lake observatory, i would think there's a lot of snow there. maybe on highway 9 as well. a lot of this is beginning to pick up towards the south bay and southern end of the peninsula. i think there will be numerous reports of hail coming in. look at the line from santa cruz all the way over to morgan hill and monterey highway. that looks intense. associated with the big low that will send it in to the north. this will come in late this afternoon and tonight. anything goes today. even funnel clouds out to the valley. what we're seeing will be a lot of rainbow weather patterns. so get ready. off and on rain. highs only in the 50s. >> thank you, steve. >>> speeding the process of arming officers with tasers. the new proposal that could put them in the hands of officers by august. >> san francisco's

as matt and tam mentioned we see it's rain south and east of the city. go in a little closer with storm tracker and show you some of the areas of lavender showing that it's coming down pretty good right now near berlin, near malaga on route 55. you're kind of in and out of some snowfall in the city itself and it's a little heavy north of the city as you travel along i-95. so, be careful as you're headed out right now. let's go outside and show you what it looks like. the snow is sure coming down. it looks kind of pretty as long as you can stay inside as sky6 looks live at city hall. we know this is a tough time for a lot of people who just got power restored and you're seeing this and you're thinking not looking so pretty to me. satellite and radar showing the beginning of the storm system t it's just really beginning. this is the original low that's transferring its energy to this coastal low that's riding right up the coastline and producing this nor'easter for us. and future tracker kind of times it out for us to show you what it's going to look like.

>> reporter: tam, it's more of the same. the main roads are looking impressively clean. the plow truck drivers did a good job clearing the roads. it is the side streets that are tricky, it's the narrow ones. the issue is your car is kind of stuck in a mound of snow. this is one of the roads we're looking at 17th and titan in south philadelphia. it's not too bad, but it's tricky to get out of the parking space. we have icing because the temperatures did fall, although we were above freezing yesterday, whatever was leftover on the sidewalks and streets have iced up. the video from yesterday, of course we all saw and experienced yesterday's mess with the snow. the good thing was most of the day was just slush. seems like plow truck drivers took add advantage of getting roads cleared. a tree fell at 23rd and race and some people pitched in and cleared the rod and sidewalks. >> it was more water, it was like slush. >> reporter: so give yourself extra time this morning and be careful as you go to work, especially for the kids, a lot of students do walk to class, make sure you
