let's get reaction from democratic national committee chairman tom perez. you heard speaker ryan talking about this race and his take. your reaction and what you take from this race even the republicans are contesting to say they may still won. >> i think this race is over. mr. saccone can contested but it's pretty clear conor lamb is going to be the next member of congress from that district. when i hear speaker ryan talk about it, here's the reality. the number one issue is health care in the district. democrats believe health care is a right for all and not a privilege for fuel. we have seen repeated efforts to make it hard for people struggling with opioid addiction to get access to health care. the health care voter came out in force. they were supporting conor lamb. similarly, there's a lot of folks who are mine workers who are losing their pensions. they have been fighting for them. the republican party hasn't been doing a darn thing for them. conor lamb was fighting for the right to organize, fighting to make sure people had a good wage and pension

lou: and tom perez and eet ellison. you've got some winners there. >> that's who they have. lou: i don't know what it's going to take for the democrats to push the clintons out. i don'i don't know if they're ce of it. speaking of the midterms, this spending bill as we understand it, written by four people, the republicans of course, mitch mcconnell heading up the senate, paul ryan the house and of course nancy pelosi and chuck schumer. have ryan and mcconnell lost their minds? >> look, dancing chuck schumer has got to be over there popping the corks on the champagne and dancing. he got everything he wanted. republicans gave up reconciliation -- remember the one tool that we actually had to get to the 50-vote threrk hold as opposed to the 60, we gave that up with the budget cap resolution. i understand the positive things for the military and there are some other good parts of it but $1.3 trillion that members are not having enough time to read and funding things that we promised as republicans we would not do if they gave the levers of power to the republicans. and to their

tom perez the top democrat says that republicans should be nervous as a result of the results of this race. should they? >> i'm hesitant to jump all the way off that cliff just because have you got a 70,000 plus democrat registration. trump did carry it. he carried it like he carried much of the rust belt on his message to steel and coal and all of that. look at this race. you had a scandal plagued incumbent. had you a candidate that the republicans put up that who did not work very hard for the seat. and you had a guy that they came in really much more conservative. very non-nancy pelosi like. i don't think it's a consistent picture of what you are going to have in all the other races but i think republicans need to take the lesson that they have got to be prepared for every one of them. >> jon: conor lamb did run against nancy pelosi and you have to wonder if he does get the seat how that is going to go over in the democratic caucus. is that a strategy for some democrats? >> well, i think what the strategy is for republicans is to demonize nancy pelosi. they made her the centerpiece

. >> we spoke to the dnc chairman tom perez about this race. the democrats tend to take a slightly different tact than the republicans. >> one thing i've learned from primaries in the past is that when the dnc gets involved in those races, then we sometimes get accused of trying to put the thumb on the scale of one over another. that's one of those races where we will see what happens. again, i think it's really important for the dnc moving forward. we're building the infrastructure to ensure that whoever wins that race will be able to win in november. >> is it helpful for you that the dnc is saying they're staying out of this, they're not helping your opponent. have you asked for help from any of the party groups and have they been willing to support you in any way? >> let's be clear about the dnc and the other party infrastructures. i'm not an elected member of the party yet. in their bylaws i'm sure i'm not allowed to have support. it is helpful that they're staying out of the race because it makes it democratic and fair that way. mr. lipins
