i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez. vianey, is it getting bigger or staying the same? >> it's still on track in terms of being a pretty good downpour as we head into friday. in terms of rain totals, some areas have been diminished because of the time line when the system is expected to move out. right now as you head out the door, the temperatures remain in the 50s. the temperatures aren't too bad. it's rather comfortable, 56 degrees in san jose. 54 for san francisco. also in the 50s for oakland. the temperature trend into today will once again climb into the 60s. you're going to notice a lot of cloud cover. the south bay will be one of the last areas to see that rain because that system looks like it's going to be moving initially from the north. i want to show you doppler radar. this gives you a good idea in terms of the system, where it's located and the time line. here it is. you can see we're still seeing that good plume of subtropical moisture, moving far off to the north. we'll start to see that hour-by-hour outlook moving north to south late near this morning.

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. taking a look at what's outside, it's going to be a nice day but we can expect rain later. >> later this evening. most of the day is looking good for plans getting out there out and about. as we head after that evening commute, it's going to start to get a little soggy here as we see a round of rain moving through. yesterday's system fell apart before it moved across much of the bay area. don't think that will be the case for this one today. a little stronger and bringing in cooler temperatures and looking at the time line of the rain by about 6:30, it moves in the north bay and approaching san francisco and oakland moving into the south bay and east bay by 8:00 to 9:00 tonight. i'll be tracking that and talking about how much more rain we may see in the forecast coming up. mike is saying the drive is slow in milpitas. >> because of overnight road crews dispatched around the bay. over here exceptionally slow over the last ten minutes, northbound 680 starting to jam up out of milpitas.

. >> i'm marcus washington. this is not too far from clayton road and not even too far for the b.a.r.t. station as well. >> you can see it from a lot of areas. they had to evacuate some areas overnight. we don't know of any injuries or how it started right now but you see the pictures of the massive apartment complex. it was under construction. it is completely destroyed from what i understand so far because of this massive blaze that caused numerous firefighters to go out to try to fight it. a lot of roads in the area are closed and it includes clayton valley road and galindo road and the b.a.r.t. station is nearby. a lot of smoke engulfing the area overnight. you see how thick the plaflames were. we'll continue to follow and pete suratos is at the scene gathering information. a lot of people in nearby apartment buildings were actually forced to evacuate as well just as a precautionary measure. they were sent alerts we understand to head out of the area as well. we also send out push alerts on this, download ou

i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we started to help the early birds get off on your way safely. we want to follow up with vianey tracking everything. and there is a lot of color on your map. >> definitely. especially when you look at the north bay, that radar is lighting up with yellow and red hues which means we're moderate to heavy downpours. so i want to start off with the satellite radar because it paints a good picture of everything that we've been tracking and where we stand right now in terms of this storm. so you can really see, there it is, like a hose effect coming in with the atmospheric river, really kind of taking its aim now through -- the models are showing further north than what we had originally seen in the earlier models, but that will mean that the north bay, even though we had already predicted this, will be seeing the majority of the hit from the storm system but still expecting to see the widespread rain. now if i zoom in closer, you could see san francisco seeing the showers right now. dublin

i'm marcus washington. >> those temperatures will creep up quite quickly, right? >> we know how it goes. it starts out cool and once the sun comes up, the temperatures start to ramp up. it's a day where you need layers if you'll be out early. we're going to see this beautiful sunrise under way. we are now 22 minutes away from sunrise and let's get the kids out the door for school this morning. a jacket needed early with our temperatures in the mid-50s. look at that noon, 75 degrees and upper 70s, walking home from school. so it's going to warm up quite a bit, the 7-day forecast does show big cooling for the bay area by the end of the week. i'll detail that coming up. mike you have a warning for san jose drivers. >> i do. counter commute direction southbound 101 is seeing slowing. we'll show you that overall there are no real big surprises and backup is on at the bay bridge toll plaza. northbound 101 typically shows a little slowing but southbound towards mckee, there's slowing and there may be garden bee b e dedegree over the roadway. we'll continue to follow that

. >> i'm marcus washington. we want to head over to kari hall keeping track what to expect as we head out the door. >> it's going to start out dry and fairly mild but then as we go throughout the day it's going to be cooler and cloudy and then we'll be tracking some rain. let's get a look at the storm system that's moving in very weak one and it's with some cooler temperatures. so as we go throughout the day we'll only reach 62 degrees in san francisco. another round of rain, this one looks heavier for tomorrow evening into early thursday but it looks very nice and dry for the weekend. we'll talk more about the rainfall totals and the time line, all of that coming up in about seven minutes and mike is tracking some of the slowing on the roads. >> because it stands out so nicely against that green. so we can pretty much see pleasanton and hayward and also fremont. we'll check the south county as well, northbound 101 shows the slowing is there. nice drive north through morgan hill. no problems for the 17 summit to

. >>> good morning, thank you for joining us, marcus washington has the day off, i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm laura garcia. back to the breaking news in san jose. the fire started in the ground floor of the unit. we're finding out more information from nbc bay area bob redell. we're hearing it is a story of a hero, bob? >> reporter: good morning laura and scott. this fire did start in the ground floor unit behind me in this small apartment complex on topeka and in the back room was an elderly woman who a neighbor said is blind and partially deaf and relies on oxygen to breathe. if it weren't for a young mother she might not have survived. while they were completing the mop-up, we learned the young mother's name is amanda loper and is in the hospital bnd expected to be okay. but we did speak with her husband and tells us the caretaker ran out of the burning unit and asked his wife amanda for help and who has severe asthma and a hard time breathing regular air immediately put her own life at risk apparently without second thought. >> my wife ran in there and grabbed her off the bed and

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. let's check the forecast with kari. >> if you were out yesterday afternoon, you were enjoying the sunshine and then suddenly the sky got dark and it looks like it was going to storm. that was a cold front moving through and now we have a disturbance a little bit higher in the atmosphere and mixing in the cold air and it's giving us spotty showers along with a chance of thunderstorms. seeing a lot of lightning offshore hasn't quite made it into the bay area but we'll have that chance today and also picking up on heavier rain about to move into santa rosa within the next ten minutes. roads are going to get wet on the stretch of 101 and tracking the rain moving across san francisco over towards walnut creek within the next 12 minutes and over towards antioch. you've got a little team before the rain moves in across the delta but i'm going to be tracking this rain throughout the day and taking a look towards the weekend, mike, you have a couple of issues getting into san francisco. >> i w

. >> i'm marcus washington. let's head over to kari hall tracking our weather for today. how is it going to look today? >> we're going to see a lot of clouds as we go hour by hour. i wanted to show you what it will look like as far as cloud cover and rain chances. there could be sprinkles moving through by about 7:30 to 8:00 and then some clearing for the rest of the day as we get a lot of sunshine. another round of rain moving in after sunset and mostly for san francisco and areas to the south with some spotty rain during the overnight hours and then clearing up early tomorrow morning. that's our chance of rain in the forecast. looks like we won't see much of it and we'll be warming up in time for the weekend. upper 60s for san francisco and low 80s for the inland valley. i'll talk about the weekend forecast at about seven minutes and mike starts out with a look at the bay bridge. >> the bay bridge backup is there but it was forming a little more leisurely. it sounds better but it still filled. back towards the 880 overcrossing, you can see the good movement for the fast

i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we started our coverage at 4:00 to get ready for the very wet conditions. we go to forecaster vianey arana doing double duty today and neither job is easy. >> no, especially when you bring rain into the picture when it comes to traffic. you know how quickly things can get messy out there. so i want to show you a look at the radar because it gives you a good idea of where this moisture is right now. now we had a cold front that kind of stalled out over the north bay. and if i zoom in toward the north bay, you could see petaluma and napa expected to get showers because behind that where you see the red and yellow hues, those are light to moderate downpours making their way through right now rohnert park, and then an area of concern there as well. and then expecting to keep a close eye on that because they are expecting upwards of three plus inches for the coastal mun -- the coastal mountains. and when i zoom in, i talk about the rain shadow and you could see this on the radar because wh
