donald trump jr. was told that these russians were coming to meet with the members of the campaign team, they said they had dirt on hillary clinton and he said he responded, if it's what you say, i love it. so that's the reason why his account of what happened in that meeting, the accounts of other people who are at that meeting has been the focus of the investigation, not only in the senate and the house but also of the special counsel robert mueller. we will see about 2,000 pages of documents here of transcripts from the interviews of various people here. we have a team behind me that is working on reading through this and seeing what is interesting, what is news worthy from all of this, but i'll give you a sense of the characters. the russian lawyer, she was the head of the russian contingent that arrived at this trump tower meeting in june 2016. on the trump side was paul manafort, the chairman of the trump campaign at the time, of course donald trump jr., jared kushner, the president's -- now the

but the problem that donald trump jr. runs into is he has such obviously evasive answers by saying, "i don't recall," which, by the way, many witnesses are prepped by their lawyers to say, if you're not 100% certain of something, say you don't recall. because you don't want to get trapped down the road. and if it's sort of an easy out, it's very hard to charge someone with false statements for saying, "i don't recall," because it's a present sense impression. it's not what you thought at the time. so even if there's contradictory evidence then, that doesn't necessarily mean that what you're saying when you say "i don't recall" is false. but in the whole thing, and in the whole transcript, you start to get aceps th sense that he's to avoid something. and that's potentially problematic, i think, more for others than maybe for don junior, because he's, it's -- there's a spillover prejudice, i guess, so to speak, than the other people who are more involved in the campaign, than he was. >> neera, wifinal thought? >> i guess th

a referendum on donald trump. when you turn on other news networks, the entire conversation is about stormy and investigation, and those things are important but it is not what will decide the election. it's about convincing democrats that yes, we need to hold them accountable, but we need to talk about bread-and-butter issues that affect these communities, like criminal justice. >> when you have to democrats not to talk about impeachment? well, i tend to be relatively agnostic about the impeachment debate in the sense of whether it is hurting or helping the party. the reality is that partisans on both sides are already in their corners, and independents who are not paying attention to every nuance of d.c. aren't paying attention to television ads or arguments about impeachment. that andis less on more on issues around stormy daniels and michael cohen. to be clear, we should let investigations proceed, that in the course of their business as part of oversight, we certainly want our elected representatives to focus
