you know, john kelly, all of our reporting points to john kelly and president trump kind of growing very tired of each other and not just that, but you know, we wanted to look at nine months in, kelly was brought in as this disciplinarian who was going to bring order to where there was chaos and how did he wind up in this position where he's so weakened and you know, it turns out that over time he eroded morale inside the white house for a number of reasons. he was -- he has this public image of being this disciplinarian and people inside the white house say he's quite undisciplined inside the white house. he's undisciplined how he talks about the president and how he talks about women. staffers have said he will sometimes create problems instead of solving them so he's actually not, you know, doing the kinds of things that he said he would come in to do or that his public image says that he does which is -- and then people are -- have really grown -- it's worn thin on people inside the white house, this notion that he continually says that he's savoring the country. they're lucky to hav

it's a huge break in what john kelly even said he wanted to do a few weeks ago. so that is the big takeaway here tonight, don, that there is going to be a reveal, a show of some documents to congressional leaders. unclear how that is going to work, if it's going to be bipartisan or republican only. but that was the development here today, don. >> let's bring in sara murray now. sara, what's the impact on the mueller investigation? >> look, it's hard to imagine the outcry we would see from republicans if the shoe were on the other foot in this case, if there was a democrat who was sitting in the oval office who was some way related to an investigation and was demanding that a confidential source be investigated as part of that investigation. >> they were really upset and besides themselves of the possibility of someone unmasking in the previous administration. >> and yet the notion that a confidential source would be outed, that they would be potentially in danger, that does not seem to bother republicans very much, particularly in this moment. i think that is par

job would seem to most people to be an appropriate setting for john kelly. and at this point tonight, as we have this discussion, a convenient place for john kelly. >> well, i think the important emphasis is on convenient. this is something, as jill said, by all accounts general kelly has absolutely no interest in. he sort of said privately he cares and loves the nation's veterans but if he's going to leave this administration, it will be when his time as chief of staff is up and he'll do it then. but i think the key point is the fact that the president is sort of floating this -- and, again, he floats a number of things that never happen and are sort of outside even the realm of plazaability. but, again, the mere fact he's mentioning this just sort of underscores that he is potentially eager for general kelly no longer to be the official disciplinarian in that role of chief of staff, and there's also a recognition in this white house that someone has to be able to leave and not be publicly humiliated. and so sort of going to run another agency, an incredibl
