the f.b.i. investigate the credible allegations of sexual misconduct by supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. it was the right thing to do. fair to both dr. blasey ford and judge kavanaugh. for too long republicans have rushed this process forward and likely would have rushed to a final vote if not for the prudent bipartisan efforts of those senators to demand a full f.b.i. investigation. what's important now is for the f.b.i. investigation to be serious, impartial and thorough, to ferret out the facts and do so quickly. that means interviewing all -- all -- of the relevant witnesses and accepting corroborating accounts when they come forward. it also means following up on any leads that emerge from the process of the investigation. the f.b.i. has ample resources to do this within the one-week period requested by the members of the judiciary committee. no one is asking it take longer than a week, but everyone is asking it be done thoroughly and completely within that week. there is concern that

now, of course, the f.b.i. has completed a supplemental background investigation and delivered its results to us here in the senate. mr. president, this is now the seventh time the f.b.i. has thoroughly reviewed judge kavanaugh's background, seventh f.b.i. investigation. so what have we learned? what are the facts and the -- what do the facts and the evidence tell us after seven f.b.i. investigations? the fact is that these allegations have not been croobd. none of the allegations have been corroborated by the seventh f.b.i. investigation. not in the new f.b.i. investigation. not anywhere. none of these last-minute allegations have been corroborated, as is firmed by the seventh and latest f.b.i. investigation. as chairman grassley stated this morning, neither the judiciary committee nor the f.b.i. could locate any third parties who can attest to any of these allegations. no backup from any witnesses, including those specifically named as eyewitnesses by the people who brought the allegations in the first place.

the f.b.i. the senate republican leadership and the trump white house did everything in their power to ensure that this investigation was not a search for truth but rather a search for cover. the search for truth would have allowed the f.b.i. to interview dr. ford's husband and her therapist, both of whom have stated that dr. ford mentioned kavanaugh as her assaulter years ago. the search for truth would have allowed the f.b.i. to interview numerous high school and college classmates who have come forward saying they could provide information about judge kavanaugh's conduct during those years. it was consistent with the allegations but also with contradict judge kavanaugh's sworn testimony. a search for truth would have allowed the f.b.i. to interview a man who wrote a sworn statement asserting that he could help corroborate ms. ramirez's allegations. or two women who contacted authorities with evidence that judge kavanaugh tried to head off ms. ramirez's story before it became public. that was
