what does indiana face in november when it comes to voting laws? >> i think indiana is in great shape. we encourage satellite voting. recently we had a case we were that leftn controversy. a federal judge had stepped in. we had opposed the federal judge dictating what should happen because we believed the state statute is sufficient to provide communities with the opportunity to set their own standards. in the county were indianapolis have determiners the number of satellite voting sites. that encourages more people to get active and involved. it is necessary beef of -- up the number of people involved. anything we can do to promote that we will do. i read you had to settle something with the ridesharing company uber, and how those -- that affected those who use the surface -- service. could you explain? >> a number of states have been dealing with a data breach issue with uber. data breaches are happening more and more. the issue is not so much having a data breach. it will happen to a lot of companies. with uber, the failure to notify people whos

this is from the indiana debate question. division in animosity in washington, and around the country is at the highest level that many people can remember, in fact some people think it has not been this polarizes since back to the civil war. so candidates the country emerged from a bruceing fight. it was a fight across lines that highlighted the growing need me too movement, as well as the demeanor of judicial nominees. what lessons did you take away from this bottom, and i start with mrs. brenton. >> thank you. and thank you to the indiana debate commission hoosiers watching, and all the fine stations and internet streaming carrying this. i'll tell you what i learned. i learned that it doesn't matter when whether you wear red, or whether you wear blue, they want control of you. the division is not over civil rights or any good issues. it's over who gets to control this country. and you can see whether you're on this side or that side the complete focus is on controlling the tax dollars that flee from people. so, what needs

indiana stepped into the breach. secretary of state, a republican recalled, back in 2001 and 2002, election integrity was a huge issue. the problem was that people were losing confidence in the system. there was a fear of votes being stolen. even, he added, if the fear did not pan out to be true. the fear was still there. in other words, based on the perception that had been carefully crafted, cultivated and stoked by the gop, state governments believe they had a mandate, a calling even, to wrestle is virtually nonexistent voter impersonation fraud to the ground. the indiana marepublican legislators therefore set out to add a powerful barrier to the polls. while he said, making sure we balanced and even in the approach to approval wasn't politically motivated. although every democrat voted against the bill, -- every republican supported it. the 2006 law required government issued voter id to vote. defined what type of identification acceptable. offer to provide at the state expense, and identification card to those t

how does senator sanders help indiana? you have joe donnelly statewide, trying to put as much space between himself and senator sanders to hold onto his seat. he campaigned for liz watson yesterday. trump won the state by 19, won the 9th district by 26 points. how does the senator close that gap and help her across the line? >> you may remember bernie sanders won the indiana primary in the 2016 cycle. he is incredibly popular with working class people in indiana that feel betrayed by the trump economic agenda, popular with young people and young people of color. his presence will bring out voters that would otherwise not participate in the process. as he said in the clip, if we can get people to come to the polls, democrats will win in november. >> but do you lose votes potentially for the statewide candidate, for joe donnelly there who is -- one of his latest ads called some of the positions sanders supports radical. >> working class people that sanders brings out will vote democratic up and down the ballot. joe donnelly

let's take a look at indiana. joe donnelly is the incumbent democrat versus mike braun, he has lost ground during the course of this. what is your take on that pool? >> a couple of things. lucy bratton is a libertarian, very conservative. she is not going to get 6% of the vote in indiana. braun has not a particularly strong candidate. donnelly is an almost the most difficult situation of any democrat. heidi heitkamp, north dakota, the resurrected lord could not get heidi heitkamp over the finish line this year. she looks all done. >> martha: let's put the heitkamp numbers on the screen. donald trump's approval rating in north dakota a 64% at this point, chris. >> she is absolutely done in. her voters whatever she wants to do. whatever she wants to do, she can do. she can suck up to the voters at home or suck up to democrats in the hopes of favorable treatment later on. she gets a freebie. donnelly is in a brutally difficult situation. it is so hard for him, because he does have a democratic base in indiana. there

indiana does look like it's trending and mike braun looks like he has momentum and has been ahead in this poll and previous polls. >> jeff flake is not running for his senate seat in arizona, he's got two congresswoman running to replace him, democrat kyrsten sinema against republican martha mcsally. sinema is slightly ahead but the race is close to being a toss-up. >> i called mcsally's campaign, they said it was an oversample of democrats, that is not an accurate reflection of the campaign. it is an online poll and does not include, the indiana one had a third-party candidate they asked the respondents to the poll. in the arizona one, they didn't use the green party candidate by name in the ballot, and the green party candidate in previous elections in arizona had got about 5.5% of the vote, that pulls away from a democrat, but regardless of that, there are 840,000 people who have already voted in arizona. and while you don't know how any of those people voted, they can tell in registration that 44% of the early voting in arizona is republican. 33% is democratic and 22% is independ

let's start in indiana. incumbent democrat joe donnelly in a tough race. that's the state president trump won. he is running a great campaign. donnelly as you know voted against kavanaugh. he is no schumer democrat.

indiana and arizona, tell what is the difference between democrats being ahead in arizona which has had two republican senators, where as indiana you've got incumbent democrat but behinds there a difference? >> onest a little bit a cross over voting where sinema is getting more of that republican cross over vote than just donnely is, this is important because we see so very little of that these days. in fact in all of these states we see much less of it than we did the last time democrats won in these red states. that partly tells you what a partisan environment this is, it tells you this election is nationalized, that three and four voters are saying they're casting a vote for senator or congress this year to put the favored national party in control of congress. having said all that, sinema is doing better on health care, something that democrats want this election to be about. donnely is not benefiting from what some thought would be backlash against the president's trade policy and heavily agriculture state. republicans overall tend to think that those trade policies will eventually
